Gouldsboro State Park

This trail is deceiving for the first mile or so, then watch out. It's full of rocks, stumps and tree roots. Not to mention mud. It's a great trail for a beginner that is looking for some exprience with more technical riding. I certainly learned alot my first trip on this trail. In all I think the trail's about 7-9 miles long. Make sure you have good tires for riding, at least 2.1 size and made for this type of terrain. A front shock helps too.
Take the Gouldsboro exit from rt 380. The park is about 3 miles from the exit on the right. There are signs on the road.
Enter the park and follow signs to the boat ramps. There's a small parking lot at the end of the road. The entrance to the trail is about 500 feet down the road on the right...

Summary: I too have to disagree with the first review, unless that person rode strickly on the old 611 portion of the trail. I followed the blue trail, both the “hiking” and cycling portion. My advice to any rider if you are not experience with trail riding stay on the cycle path. Our team ended up carrying our bikes for about 50% of the outing (felt like 100%). The total ride is about 4-5 miles (note really sure, odometer broke on the hiking portion). We followed the blue trail from the parking area just above the boat launch. It is a nice paved road with slight uphill incline to a slight downhill incline. We took a right at the “T” in the road and followed this to the end. Nice easy fun downhill ride. When we got to the pile of huge boulders in the road we should have heeded the warning and turned around. No, not us, we continued on past the boulder pile, past the two downed trees, past the 2nd boulder pile. If this were not enough warning nothing is. Take my advice; turn around when you see the boulders. I am a novice so some move experience riders may appreciate a hiking path, but not me. If you choose to continue past the boulders you will have a beautiful hiking path with tall trees with lots of them crossing the path. There are even more jagged rocks and just a little bit of swampy marsh. I guess the big issue that I had was I could not even get a running start to try to attempt some of the trail. We would struggle for 50 or 60 feet only to run into a downed tree. Then there was the mountain of rocks and the neighbors with the “No Trespassing” sign and the big barking dogs. I will just say we were grateful to get back on a paved road when we were done. The last 3/4 of a mile up to the parking are was a dream at this point. Total biking/hiking time, 1 hour 40 minutes, like I said the hiking portion was hell. One last note, I had just added rat traps to my bike, made the trip even more interesting!!!!
Recommended Route: Blue Trail, stick to the cycling portion. There are maps available at the boat launch. That is what I based my rating on.
Other recommended trails in the same area: Just started riding, we are going to try the blue trail at Tobyhanna Lake.

Summary: I would tend to disagree with the original reviewer - these are mostly hiking trails that are extremely rocky, rough, & at times not very well marked. Over at Tobyhanna State Park there is a blue trail that encircles the lake that was much more fun to ride - a lot less "hike-a-bike". Hope this helps.
Recommended Route: Stay on the "blue" trails!

Summary: the trail that i most like there is old rt 611 it is located on the main road about 3/4 mile from entrance. follow road past 3-4 parking lot gates, the road will turn sharp to the left. before the bend in the road you will see a gate, this is the trail head. go down the paved trail for 1 mile than go left or right this is old rt 611. i like this tril for it's history. it was the only paved road in the area at the time it steched from the poconos to scranton( i think) there is still some of it left in tanersville. this trils is great for everyone and every level. good for most beginers
Recommended Route: same as others
Other recommended trails in the same area: in the area would be camelback, jim thorp,
