Frackville to Pottsville

Ride on the North side of 81 going north (or by the state prison on the south side if you aren't afraid of the guards) for about a mile. Stay close to 81 and you'll go under a silver steam pipe, and then 81 itself. Rip down to Pottsville on an old mining road parallel to 61. Land at the mall, ride the trail at the south edge down to the road behind the mall, turn left, then follow trail to the right. This trail follows an old mining railroad bed (easy riding)to Minersville, from which you can either backtrack or follow more mining roads along 901 back up to 81, a strenous but doable climb. On top of the ridge at the intersection of 901 & 81, you have lots of options. Riding the south side of 81 from 901 to this point will land you in this weird swamp sitting on top of the ridge (go figure), so the north side is best. The best riding from there is on federal prison ground on the north side of the highway. Just ride along like you belong there. If you hug 81, after about 3 miles you'll be able to cross under the interstate via a 4' tall tunnel (pretty cool). Anyway, cross under to the south side and keep 81 within earshot. After another 3-4 miles you might find a big reservior, and you know what to do there. It's a short ride back to the Frackville mall parking lot, where you originally parked.
Park at the mall in Frackville and ride down the entrance road, turn left immediately after crossing over 61, go under 81 and turn right on the first road. Trail is evident at many places along this road.
