Ridden Trail: Ridden Once

Weekend Warrior Summary: I started out at the gravel parking lot just after you cross the dam. The trail starts on the right side of the road about 200 yards past the parking lot. I rode in a clockwise direction and the total distance was around 14 miles. The ride was great with lots of singletrack through the trees and some short steep climbs to get the heart rate up. Most of the trail is well maintained but portions are not very well marked. I made a couple of wrong turns at some unmarked intersections and ended up on the lakeshore. The trail is totally dry this time of year. I will return for another ride as soon as possible.

Weekend Warrior Summary: Who knew that Hagg lake would be so beautiful?!? Started out at boat launch area "C" and took the clockwise path. The west end was rather overgrown and not well maintained, but this was only for a couple miles. Once past the marsh, the trails were pretty clear and dry. Watch out for blackberry bushes and mud holes if its been raining. Depending on how fast you ride, and what the conditions are like, I would anticipate being there for at least 3 hours. Recommended Route: Clockwise

Cross Country Rider Summary: A very fun trail if you're not allergic to poison oak. Watch out if you are. I am and was destroyed by the stuff. Pretty fun trail though. The blackberries were a little bad, just a few scratches were worth the awesome blackberry lunch half way through. So august is an awesome time to go if you do. Winter sucked. Weird clay that packs into your tires and literally stops you in your tracks.

Cross Country Rider Summary: Rode the Eastern half of the trail on the 12th. Rained about 5 days ago but the trail was fine. I can see where it would get really sticky/muddy in the winter and spring so I'd avoid it then.
I couldn't figure out why I felt so blah about the ride when I finished. Most of the reviews posted here are accurate. It's a well maintained loop trail with some good short climbs and descents to keep it interesting. It sucks when its wet or the blackberries have overrun the trail. So why isn't it more enjoyable? I settled on two things: You're riding a trail squeezed between the paved loop road and the artificial lake. You're never far from the noise of cars and jet skis. And $5 is a lot for the price of admission.
These are my problems and shouldn't discourage you from giving it a try. You could do a fun day with a picnic and the family and get some good riding in too. For me, Black Rock is closer, free, and way more interesting. Other recommended trails in the same area: I actually had a better time on the Banks Vernonia rail trail. Could ride it with my wife and have a beer in Vernonia!

Weekend Warrior Summary: Pretty fun singletrack loop around the lake. You will be on the road in a few places, but not for long. A few climbs and descents to keep the heart rate up. Recommended Route: Park anywhere, look for a trailhead and start riding. I ride it CW. When the trail dumps you out on a road, continue on and look for the next trailhead. Other recommended trails in the same area: Browns Camp, at the summit of HWY 6.
