Charlton Lake Loop
3 reviews
 4.33 of 5

All singletrack with a tricky section or two at the mid-way point at the end of Chalrton Lake. Some roots, rocks, and water bars to get up and over, with a few creek crossings. The trail is pretty typical loose Central Oregon sand/dirt. You can ride this loop in either direction.

Trail Directions
Drive Cascade Lakes Highway (#46) from Bend about 40 or so miles. Turn at the sign for Cultus Lake Resort, and after a mile turn at the Little Cultus Lake sign on FS rd# 4636. You can park in the day use area at the Little Cultus Lake campground, or continue on the dirt road about 2 miles to a small pullout with a trail sign for Lemish Lake. This will shorten the ride a bit by about 4 miles.

Ridden Trail:
Once a week

Summary:
This trail is really two very different forests. Lodgepole and sand on eastside. While douglas fir, mountain hemlock and white pine predominate the westside. Look for elk and mule deer while riding between FS4290 and charlton lake. Some coyotes and pine marten also.
Recommended for strong riders if doin whole loop. Otherwise, nothing really to difficult. Just remember you're a ways from an help.

Recommended Route:
Clockwise, a nice way to warmup is starting from near the Lemish lake trailhead. The lily lake/ clover meadow connector is a fun way to make a shorter loop ride. From either charlton or lemish.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
For the full epic start from Cultus lake, ride trail to little cultus. Then south on fireroad to Lemish trailhead. When trail splits by lemish lake go right, west. Up to Charlton lake then west again to Waldo lake. Ride waldo counter- clockwise. And then back the way you came. 60+ miles of light use singletrack.

Ridden Trail:
Ridden Once

Summary:
Fun singletrack. Intermediate technical, only a small section that was difficult (you can avoid by riding clockwise). First half of ride will be mostly gradual up either direction(1000 ft over 6-7 miles). Great views at Charlton Lake.

Recommended Route:
I can see that riding this route clockwise would be the best way to go. Suggest doing the Charlton Lake loop and not the shorter Lemish Lake loop.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Waldo Lake just west is a great ride if you are in the area.

Summary:
Great ride with very few people. Make sure you include riding Lemish Lake in this same loop or you will regret it. Waldo lake is in the same area and can be included for an epic length ride or done the next day. The best part of the ride is jumping into the one of the lakes for a cool down at the end.
Many thanks go to the guys at Central Oregon Trail Alliance for keeping this trail and many others clear for all of us. Shralp on....

Recommended Route:
Ride this loop clockwise.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Waldo, anything in Oakridge, Lemish
