Summary:
Like the above review states, with parking, if you're broke. My wife and I paid the $5 for day use and swam for a while. I don't mind paying at places with the hope that the money will go into trail upkeep and new trails being built.
At the North east end of the campground behind a dam you will see a green gate, go around this and after a few feet, make the first right. Then about 50 feet down make another right and cross the creek on a small bridge. The rye spur sign was laying on the ground so it is easy to miss. continue up this trail for a couple hundred feet to a "Y" and go left/straight twards Lake of the Woods. Nice gradual uphill for about a mile and a half that is torn up from horses. After the summit(gnarly rock overview looking East) The horses seemed to disappear and all I saw was MTB tracks. Lots of small sticks in the trail perfect for ripping off drive train parts. Had to stop a couple times to get a stick out. Great down hill. Gradual enuff to pedal or coast. Super fast if pedaled. Pops out right at the turn off for LOTW resort.

Recommended Route:
4 mile lake to 140.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Brown Mtn loop. Nice singletrack from fish lake to north fork camp ground.

Summary:
Upon entering the campground, there is a fee pay station signboard, and the road comes to a tee. If you go left and park in the lot for the Pacific Crest Trail, you don't have to pay the fee. Then you can ride over to Rye Spur trailhead, which is actually to the right at the tee. Nice gentle uphill grade for a couple of miles or so. Then you come to a basalt tower where you get one of those "forever views". After that it's pretty much fun downhill thru pine woods. Tire snubbing rocks are ever present in the trail but sparse enough to allow you to almost enjoy them. There's always the danger of pine limbs flipping up into your spokes, but the four of us got through without mishap. There is also a High Lakes Trail, and Brown Mountain Trail, all within easy riding distance of Rye Spur. There's really no sick stuff constructed along the Rye Spur, but one of our riders managed to find a natural ramp up onto a 4 foot diameter log, rode the length, and hucked off the end. That was kewl. I found a few rocks on the Brown Mountain trail just perfect for launching off of, but I'm a whimp compared to these other dudes.

Recommended Route:
Our group left a car at the bottom of the road to Four Mile Lake, and shuttled up to the campground on the lake shore, where the trail begins.
