Cross Country Rider Summary: There is actually way more than 16 miles of trail in the Phil's trail system. Tight twisty trees, great descents, some technical spots, no lung busting climbs but the highlight is the pristine skinny singletrack deep into the forest. Recommended Route: I made a 22 mile loop starting at Ben's trail. Ride Ben's about 7 miles through tight trees to road 300, turn right and a quick left onto the double track/ fire road. Easy, steady climb for about 3 miles. A small kiosk on the left will explain the recommended downhill route for the Woopy trail. Continue up the road for another 1/4 mile, there will be singletracks going left and right but keep going up to the Storm king trailhead towards the heli pad. Before the helipad turn right at the sign that says "Bend 16.7 miles". Enjoy the great descent for 5-6 miles with several stinger uphills. Storm king will drop into a double track. Follow the bike sign to COD. Ride COD for another 5 or so miles, paralleling the highway on the right.Great technical spots here. You can eventually find a trail that will drop you off onto the highway. A bit vague but it'll be hard to not find a sweet loop out there.

Cross Country Rider Summary: Awesome trails. Phil's trails are actually made up of Ben's Trail, Kent's Trail, and Phil's. The climbing is not difficult. Mainly intermediate in nature. I live in Bend and ride the trail at least 3 times per week during the spring, summer and fall. Easy access and close to town. You can go 35+ miles with variations in one ride.
Enjoy! Recommended Route: Start out on Ben's Trail from the Phil's Trailhead and go West. Stay on Ben's Trail all the way up to the turnoff to the Helicopter Pad (8 miles). You can add in Sklyliners Park for a fun variation. Ride down Phil's, Ben's or Kent's Trail back to the trailhead. Other recommended trails in the same area: Storm King, Deschutes River Trail....

Weekend Warrior Summary: okay, i'm a 15 year old from san diego. im used to rough, hard packed rocky trails. these encroaching trees in my opinion are much more of a thrill. not so many strenuous climbs or many blasting downhills, but the downhills are long, fast, and flowing. fun fun fun. found the town i wanna live in. Bend rules. keep riding, rock on Other recommended trails in the same area: idk many

Cross Country Rider Summary: I grew up in Bend but moved away in '94. I remembered the area as a place where we'd throw keggers and drive our cars/trucks/bikes off-road. I got a map from the guys at Webcylery and took off out Skyliner. I was quite surprised at the amount of work that has been put into the area. After asking a few questions of some of the locals there I decided on a route. I went up Kents and would evaluate how I felt at FS300 (where it turns into Phils BD and DBD). At FS300 I wasn't feeling up to the DBD climb so I took a right and was going to take the Bens/Voodoo route back to the trailhead. I ran across another local at jct 24 who said I had to climb up and take the Whoops section. He was quite persuasive so I obliged. I must say that the additional 2mi climb (on an FS road) wasn't bad at all. The trail however was something else entirely! OMFG!!! It was like a freaking roller coaster! I was going so fast and catching so much air time that I was litterally laughing out loud. Sweeeeeet! The Bens/Voodoo section was nearly as fast with less air, a few rocky sections, short climbs, and some tight turns. Looking at the whole little 15mi loop I did I'd have to say that this is some of the best single track I've ever had the pleasure to ride. Many kudos to the guys at COTA for all their hard work out there! BTW, it had just rained the day prior to my visit and the trail conditions were awesome for this time of year (usually later and earlier in the year are better at the lower elevations). No dust and very little loose sand. The 2.24 Mutano Raptors (40-45psi, F/R) did an excellent job on these trails. I can't wait for the Slalom Play Loop to get done! I'm going back in Sept to ride Waldo Lake and am adding an extra day to my trip to ride the Phils area again! Recommended Route: ANY! Get a map. There's a new shop on Galveston called NW Adventures and the guys there are really nice. Maps are like $9 I think. Throw them some business if you can Other recommended trails in the same area: Once again, get a map.
