Cross Country Rider Summary: Good times...thanks for the entertainment. "Screw the Rules" and "Turn your American Flag upside down"...just classic posts. Recommended Route: Cooks Meadow is a great trail ride, especially from the top (Rd 4410) down to 44.

Cross Country Rider Summary: I rode this today as a loop, using the Cook's Meadow trail to avoid about half of the riding on 4410. If you aren't good at going over roots & logs on uphills, you will be by the time you get to the top. :) The view from the top is incredible. If you want to take the (1 mile) side hike up to the lookout, bring something with which to secure your bike.
Downhill section is very fun, but getting dusty (early August). It doesn't look like this gets ridden a lot. Towards the bottom, the trail parallels 8-mile creek. Recommended Route: 35 South. West (left) on 44 towards Dufur. Park at the Surveyors/Dog River trailhead on the left about 3 miles before the turnoff for Knebal Springs. Head out the Surveyors Ridge Trail (688). Go about 2.5 miles to the Cooks Meadow Trail (649 I think) on the right. It's not signed from the direction you will be going, but it's a pretty obvious right. Go right up a steep short uphill to cross 44, then begin the uphill grind on Cook's Meadow. The trail tops out at a small ridge & then heads right & downhill briefly to meet FR4410. Head left on 4410. Spend about 2-3 miles of uphill swimming in gravel & hot sun, yay. At the top take a left onto FR4420. Shortly, pass a parking lot on the left at the trailhead for the lookout. The road goes back in to the woods & starts heading downhill. After about a mile, take a left onto trail 450. Enjoy the singletrack descent to 44. Take a left on 44 for an easy downhill road ride. Pick up the Cooks Meadow Trail on the right about 1/2 mile after the turnoff to Knebal & head back to the parking lot on Surveyors' Ridge. This clocked in for us at 16.2 miles. Other recommended trails in the same area: Joining 8-mile in with this would make a neat peak-to-peak experience.

Weekend Warrior Summary: Very concerned about what I'm reading. This is basically what scares me most. Bicyclists who think the reason routes are closed to them and not horses, due to environmental reasons. Please learn to respect horses and equestrians. Cyclists AND equestrians have responsibilities. An equestrian will not take her horse where the trail says not too - Bicyclists should do the same. Please educate yourself on the issue of horses and YOUR responsibility as a cyclist. The actions of a few cyclists do not respresent the actions of all - but when you post things like "screw the rules" and "shut up" - it is clear, you are an irresponsible cyclist. Equestrians and cyclists CAN share a trail together - but not with a "screw the rules" attitude. I would encourage you to take a few horseback riding lessons and get to know the nature of the horse. Please read this excellent article: http://www.imba.com/resources/bike_management/clemson_horses.html Recommended Route: "What's the worst that can happen?", asks 'screw the rules'? People and horses can be killed. Other recommended trails in the same area: Please view this link: http://www.imba.com/resources/bike_management/clemson_horses.html

Reviewed by: screw the rules Summary: if people are going to keep closing trails to bikers but keep them open to horses, i say ride it anyways. Horses piss and crap on the trail as well as tear them up as much as a motorcycle. Ride any trail you want, whats the worst thing that can happen?, somebody tell you not to do it again? nobody's going to arrest you. Act ignorant. Recommended Route: PC trail
