Summary:
Firstly, go to the ranger station just west of Oakridge, they have an awesome collection of photocopied trail maps for the taking. Hardesty mountain trail (near the bottom it is called willamette-something) begins west of Oakridge or exit off I-5, Take Hwy 58 21 mi. to large dirt turn-out on right. Trail begins here. About half a mile into the trail take the first left (avoid the Goodman trail) climb a bit more and stay right at the next junction. The trail then crosses over a number of forest roads, (just keep going up). The top of Hardesty mountain’s view is rather obscured by trees, but no matter, the downhill is great.

Summary:
This trail is a great ride. Ride the whole thing without a car shuttle. If you can't hack the uphill ride your a slacker. You will probably skid your tire all the way down the hill. Go ride the ski lifts.

Recommended Route:
Park at Trail head. Display OR Trail pass. Ride East on Hwy 58 to Paterson Mtn. Rd. Bike to top, about 7 miles, take double track on Right for 1 Mi. Get on single track and follow signs past Eula Ridge trail to Hardesty trail. Point it down hill and respect any hikers using the trail.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
The Willamette Trail is good.

Summary:
Great trail, but don't shuttle. If you can't make it up on the bike you don't have the skills to be riding this trail responsibly and you are likely the guys that will end up getting this trail closed to us real bikers who value the whole experiance, pain and all. It's the whole package, the downhill is just one small aspect.

Recommended Route:
Shuttle it? Give me a break! During the summer ride up the trail to the top, turn around, and head back. You'll be feeling proud if you can make it the whole way riding. It'll take awhile to build up to but make it your goal. In the fall when things are a little moiste or you're not feeling like Superman ride up Patterson mountain road and drop in after you're on top.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
The outback off the back of Hardesty is awesome. It's called Sawtooth I belive and heads over and up to what I think is Junes mountain. Its a hike a bike to the top of Junes. You can drop back off of Junes and head down some sweet tight switchy single track over to Eagles Rest trail and than to Goodman back to your car. This is the real epic way to do this ride. You'll be loving life after this loop. Get a map so you don't have to start worrying about spending the night out there when you don't really know where you are and the light is starting to fade. It's not fun to contemplate. Enjoy, and please, no shuttles guys!

Summary:
I've road this trail for 6 or so years .. Kicks ass every time.. Free Ride It Baby!... I recommend going slow the first time if you value your good health, watch for fallen trees and washouts & ect.. Mad switchbacks will send you flying in the air if your not careful. Beware of hikers and there dogs down the second half. Ride with a friend so you don't die alone up there. Beautiful Scenergy of Oregon, and on a hot summer day at the bottom there's a lake that you can ride down into or swim, certain times of year its an awesom mud pit to bath like pigs... Highly recommend this ride to anyone with a full face helmet and platform pedals. Taste Death ... Live Life! 4:21 still smoking.

Recommended Route:
Shuttle Cars. 1 at bottom 2nd at top of Patterson Mountain Road long ways up take the hard right arm of big fork in road to dead end of Hardesty Trail Head sign.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Nope its the best in the area... Though there is a half way starting point that bypasses the small ride/hike uphill at the starting point. For the true downhill experience!
