Good uphill climbing, and some raging downhill. Follow the gravel trail to the top, then strap on your helmet and go nuts.
Summary: was out there today,and the down pour began before i made it to the second jump, it was red clay covered in rain, lots of ruts full of water and very slippery out there, by the power lines there is a little section of singletrack that was amazing, even the climbs where slippery and branches everywhere from the last wind storm, both trails looked in great shape and nobody in sight for miles it was a soaker but very satisfying. what a great trail system after you find your way through, the fire roads are made of rock and clay the short ride on the fire road was a bumpy one, this is a long hike for a short single track. got to love both for this trail.
Recommended Route: try parking at the top of smith road where it crosses axil road and park there, before the white gate there is a quad trail, take that north to the bottom then turn left on the and go that way for 2 mi. look single track by the power lines .

Summary: was very good ,hours and hours spent out there, still finding new trials,and finding my way through the loggers, the best part of this single track is at the top. knowing the are is key to know because of the weather or darkness falling,they are many deadends and a lot of climbing, i don't need a map, just follow motorcycle tracks and bring markers
to find your way back somtimes, i found many single track mostly north of smith road,look for fire foad down from gate,stay to the right along the creek then go up and take the 2nd right up small
single track splits, but both go up to fire rd. stay right then left should nd your way n.e. to smith rd. cross gate, look for single track on left before hitting the aspalt go down into valley take a left at the bottom turn left on fire rd. back west along the bottom and
look for powerlines and more single track
every where.
Recommended Route: the area has many gates you can enter from
many are closer to the action, try this one,hwy 30 west turn left on smith rd.
in columbia city,go on this dirt rd. about five miles stay to the right at the
top of the hill, look for a blue gate on the right and dart creek rd.

and pittsburg rd. anything in between hwy
30 vernonia hwy 47.

Summary: Excellent route. Challenging terrain. Lots of different types of ground, from pavement to gravel to cobble to logging trail to singletrack to mudhole. Plenty of elevation change. Striking views of the Cascade Range from the top of Bunker Hill. Credit to Weyerhauser for not banning bicycle use on their lands here.
Recommended Route: follow pittsburg rd. from hwy. 30 exactly 7.5 miles. Park next to light blue gate on right. Ride further along Pittsburg rd. about 1/2 mile. Take gravel fork bearing 11:00 off that road. That gravel trail leads down past Salmonberry Reservoir. Continue straight and up Smith Creek canyon on muddy singletrack, containing some ruts. Descend to the Salmon Creek canyon. Ride NW up Brinn Rd., it turns from gravel to rocky cobble. At elevation 520' in section 33 (get a map, you moron) turn left and go uphill. At 650', turn left. This becomes singletrack, with some overgrowth and mudholes. It comes out at Dowd Rd. Find the intersection of Bunker Hill Rd. Ride up that road. It starts out as packed gravel, but becomes rocky towards the top. Continue straight over the top of the hill. Dodge the mudholes created by the 4-wheeler crowd. One of the holes is 30' long, 15' deep and contains 5' of brown water, deep enough to sink a rice-burning Honda. (Why do landowners contend that mountain-bikers damage trails, when 4-wheelers absolutely mutilate them?) Don't get sidetracked by the multiple turns offs, some of which deadend in clearcuts. On the way down the hill, pass through a clear cut, then re-enter the forest. Turn right. This logging trail descends to the Clatskanie River valley. Turn right on the gravel road in section 36. Proceed north to an intersection in section 25 which is a 4-way with the river crossing underneath. Turn right, proceed up one mile to 1240'. This is Pittsburg Rd. again. At the high point, check out the hillside on the right which has been turned into a motorcross course. Descend 400' in 1.5 miles to Trenholm. Continue straight on Pittsburg Rd., descending another 540' in 2 miles. While descending, you're in a tuck for so long that your butt cramps. This brings you back to the blue gate. The preceding is a nice long ride which requires you to exercise common sense, and navigational skills. Bring map and compass. The earlier reviewers who couldn't find anything probably couldn't find their way out of their own bedroom without their mommy's help. p.s. only tell your most trusted riding buddies about this. Otherwise keep your mouth shut.

Summary: multi-level from little to huge range,as you go down the first turn there is a two left turn outs which lead you up hill towards west, one is striaght up with a 1000 ft climb(fire road) there will be another left clearly marked fire lane 137 ( i think) some single track but more up hill to climb, go past that about another half mile down hill,look for it on your right, goes into a single track down the most gnarly run done yet, 800 foot less than mi. ok. the second left turnout goes along the bottom of the canyon really mello, slow up hill along a creek for about two miles first turnout of this one is a dead end second one is the spline-trial up hill, proceed striaght on this trial,untill you come into low covered dogwoods with blackberry bushes it is all up hill keep going till the piles of rocks made to fill in the road for the loggers, what a bumpy return trip you are going to have. other than that most of the trials are in the first mtn. looking over the road you parked at,never had any problems fing my way through there, just a lot of uphill for minutes of down hill

Ridden Trail: Ridden Once

Summary: This trail "system" has great potential, but its potential is largely ignored at this point. I've ridden here twice, and both times I've come out scratched up & itching from blackberry bushes and stinging nettles. It offers mildly hilly fireroads that would be perfect for the beginner, were it not for the nettles. There are tiny bits of mildly technical singletrack here and there, but they disappear quickly, often dead-ending into bush. Its a real shame this area hasn't been managed for riding. Its a beautiful area, with forest & flowers everywhere. This has the potential be the best riding in the Portland area. Some real effort is needed to develop a well-connected trail system, and to keep the fireroad clear of nettles.
Recommended Route: Just ride around & look carefully for singletrack
