Cross Country Rider Summary: Just rode yesterday for the second time in two years. Start at Fish Lake Dam where there is a campground, ride clockwise. Fish Lake section easy single trek, four miles. Catch High Lakes trail at Entrance to Fish Lake resort. Very easy schist trail that is really spectacular as it goes through lava fields, another 5.5 miles. Brown Mtn trail turn off easy, trail goes back to unprepared single trek with LOTS of roots, rocks and huckleberry to hide the trail. Old growth sugar pines are nice. Next 7.5 miles are not fast as the constant rock/root delays. But challenging. Road 3705 is paved, but the trail has been extended another mile beyond this year. Pick up an old logging road that brings you back to 3705, then 5 miles back to car. Total of 23 miles. Recommended Route: I park as the Fish Lake Dam, ride clockwise. May want to park at High Lakes Trail too. Seems that most of Brown Mtn's downhill would be this way.
Other recommended trails in the same area: Chenaquepin Mtn Loop. Easy for beginngers. 25 miles. Maybe 1 or 2 stars. Start at Howard Prarie Lake area. More in Ashland, Talent watersheds which is much better.

, from Grants Pass Summary: I was pleased with the technical climbing sections. Nothing too steep but still tricky. The down hill about halfway is fantastic! Screaming single track! Good workout for a Sunday afternoon. Recommended Route: Do this with plenty of daylight. We got back in the dark!
