12 Miles of Hell

Technical, rocky, fire roads, single track, steep tractionless climbs, steep dangerous descents.
Take the Roger's Lane exit and go to 52nd street and turn north for 1 mile, west for 5 Miles, and turn north and travel until you see the LETRA sign and turn right. Go 1 mile and look left. Park on the Pond dam. Pick up maps by calling 580-355-1808.
Summary: Best trail I've ridden. All conditions network of single and double track. There's everything from tank and jeep roads/double track, to wooded single track, to rocky single track. Much topography that will get your heart rate up-way up! Climbs in the Wichita Mtns will test you. Some very technical parts. Great scenery. Quite a few miles of trail; I've only ridden 13-14 during the race. I will definately revisit, and hopefully re-race.
Recommended Route: Start at LETRA on Fort Sill Military Base, Lawton, OK. There is an unmarked trailhead near the tent camping section on the west end of the lake.

Ridden Trail: Once a month

Summary: 1st time I rode here it sucked couldn't find the singletrack for the life of me but then met some locals in Medicine park and they showed me the way. Trail should be pretty good since the 12 miles of hell this past march was held. Some great riding! when you find it. Also there are about 10+ miles of trails around Medicine park that rock however you need to be in the know in order to find them. Look hard for the trails they are worth it. Watch out for snakes!
Recommended Route: Start in Medicine park ride across the damn to the base and follow the fire roads until you see single track.
Other recommended trails in the same area: Medicine Park ask the Mayor for trail directions.

Summary: I haven't ridden this trail network since June 2001, but I am drooling over the fact that I will be back at Ft Sill to ride in 2004. This is the best trail I have ridden in the States. If you want some real mountain biking, go get some here. This is awesome riding for the intermediate rider and up. I still proudly carry scars from this course. The course is awesome and worth living in OK to ride. I challenge the hardcore to ride the Kelvinator!!! Trail rates 10 stars!!!
Recommended Route: Use LETRA entrance or drive around
Other recommended trails in the same area: Mt Scott??? There aren't many

Summary: Wow, I saw the previous review...it's the same guy that review Turkey and now he's popping valium pills. This dude obviously doesn't like riding his bike anymore. I remember some twisty wooded singletrack at 12 miles of hell...not much but it's there.

Summary: Fun but no woods, mainly tank trails. I wouldn't ride it except for the race as I prefer wooded single track. The trails get a 1 but the race gets a 5 star. Go get yourself a rock.
Recommended Route: Ridden about 5 times
