Weekend Warrior Summary: Old Military Trail: Great mostly single track trail on an 'old military trail.' This is a 7 mile climb one-way and a 7 mile ride back down on the way back. I would start at the bottom. Rode in February and there was little undergrowth and no bugs. The trail is fairly rocky like most Ouachita Mountains trails, so bring extra tubes. There are some technical spots, mostly on short rocky climbs. There are also some creek crossings. I'd definately make sure your in shape. You also cross several gravel roads that you can bail on if you know the direction back to the highway (hint: west). You might even bring and extra tire. You'll likely meet no one else on the trail. There are crude maps at the trailheads. Recommended Route: I'd start at the Holson Valley Road trail head, ride up winding stair mountain to the overlook on scenic HWY 1, and then ride back down. You can ride one way on HWY 271 to HWY 1 (or vice versa) if you only want to ride the trail one way. Other recommended trails in the same area: There are other trails in this same network that are open to biking. Stop and ask at the state park or ranger office at HWY 1/271 jct.

, from ttulsa,ok Summary: AAll of the trails I rode were single track. Most of them were smooth, fast trails with switch-backs.Since they are cut going down the mountians, you usually get a long stretch of all down hill. One trail I got on was very, rocky and not rideable in some sections.Overall, this is a beatiful area and has good riding. As far as long climbs and desends go,this is my favorite in Oklahoma. Recommended Route: SSorry,I dont know the names of the trails but there are plenty to choose from. Other recommended trails in the same area: TTurkey Mountain,Greenleaf State Park,Wichita Mountains
