Kaw Lake

Very Technical areas, short demanding climbs and decents, 30% single track, 30% double track, fast draining firm soil, with lots of large rocky areas. Something for every rider.

Ridden Trail:
Ridden Once

Reviewed by: Jim Scott , from Joliet, Illinois

Summary:
I was expecting a hard ride on short, steep climbs like the road here in the Ponca City area. I wasn't let down. Not only were the hills steep, but there were some parts that were VERY technical. This area was filled with sand, rocks, and branches. There was also a lot of 4 wheeler tracks and Motorcycle tracks, even though we only saw one group of 3 people riding 4 wheelers and no one on bicycles. As you can expect, there were ruts all over the place from motorized riders riding rain or shine. The downhills were very technical. If you like rocks, you will be in luck, as there were many to be found. If you liked sand, you would find that in abundance, also. There were numerous washout areas and many places that could be traversed only on foot. The View...WOW. Kaw Lake is beautiful and the beach around the lake is easily accessible. All in All, I loved it. The only other trail I have to compare it to is Palos in Illinois. This trail is far more technical and hilly. Expect some bumps and bruises, that way if you walk away unscathed, you can be proud of yourself. ps I would love to see the race course!

Recommended Route:
Kaw City Highway past Kaw lake then first parking area on left.

Ridden Trail:
Once a year

Summary:
Raced here as part of Oklahoma State Series. This trail was really fun, lots of singletrack. With some short but difficult climbs and descents. Some tricky rocky sections, and some fast buff singletrack in the trees. Appears that it's a high maintenance trail that can get overgrown in the summer. Not much traffic at all except leading up to annual race.

Ridden Trail:
Ridden Once

Reviewed by: Collier , from Austell, Georgia

Summary:
I rode this trail as part of the Oklahoma Tour De Dirt. It was my first foray into true mountainbiking. Great trail. Very technical in spots (even in retrospect now that I am somewhat more experienced). Also has nice singletrack through high meadows. This trail can get very slick if wet. Watch out for some dangerous downhill sections - especially in the first real turn (it was my first really good spill!)

Recommended Route:
From Ponca City, take lake road east to Burbank Landing. Ask - its tough to find.
