Towpath Trail

Average Rating:    (4.33 of 5)

No. of Reviews: 3

Often overlooked gently winding, mostly flat, trail. Considering its geographic location, its a nice ride. Entire route under canopy which makes it cool and the summer and takes some of the bite out of cold November winds. Lots of nice views of the river. Gorgeous during fall colors. On occassion have seen bald eagles, fox, deer, etc. Weekdays you might see half a dozen people once you leave the parks. Weekends slightly busier. Shelter house on trail with restrooms and water 2 miles west of Farnsworth. Full facilities at parks at either end of trial. If you want a nice easy scenic trail all to yourself and happen to be stuck in NW Ohio, its as good as it gets. Closed Jan to March and if muddy.

Summary:
Yup, nice tow-path trail. Just rough enough for fat tires, no roadies here. Great views and history. Great place to work on your endurance, or just do the tourist thing and amble through the park.

Recommended Route:
Park at westend of park, in Providence, across the river from Grand Rapids. Lots to see.

Summary:
My local ride. As stated before, mostly flat trail, but scenic and usually all but vacant so you can burn as fast as you can turn. Nice and shaded for summer rides. Good for any level rider. Best during crisp colorful fall days. Careful not to get in the way of the donkeys pulling the tourist along the canal at Providence Metropark.

Recommended Route:
Start and end at Providence Metro Park. Finish up with an easy pedal across the bridge for a post ride bite in GR.

Please note that I am rating this trail on a location curve. Considering its NW Ohio, its about as good as it gets.
