Royalview MTB Trail

Average Rating:    (4 of 5)

No. of Reviews: 1

The second offering from Cleveland Metroparks, this trail was built for novices, and it is easy until you try to go fast.
It is narrow and it is lined with trees, so be sure to keep a tight line!
Slopes are pretty gradual, but speed is definitely possible. Scenery is very appealing with big oaks, pines, ravines, and wildlife. Many bridges help to get the trail into places where many people have not often gone.
Suitable for kids, trail-a-bikes, and even tandems, so be aware of your fellow trail users.
Trails are one-way for bikes. Start at the bottom of yellow or red, or start at the top of red where water and bathrooms are found near the pavilion. Check conditions before riding. Open when frozen or dry.

Summary:
This trail is narrow, but it can be fast and fun. Climbs are long and shallow so sometimes it's hard to tell that you're climbing. Many turns employed by the trail builders to control speed. No technical features, but it gives you a chance to enjoy the scenery. It is adjacent to the parkway so it is easy to ride there from almost anywhere on the "Emerald Necklace" and add'l parking is available within a mile either way.
I have done TT's there and snow rides, as well as taught my 6 y.o. to ride offroad, so it has appeal for lots of different riders.
I give it a 3 on technical difficulty due to the turns and trying to go fast. It's a 1 at sightseeing speed. I give it a 4+ on scenery.

Recommended Route:
I like to start at the bottom: Yellow, up to Red. Around Red 1-1/2 times to exit near the bottom. Riding Yellow in reverse is discouraged but holy cr@p is it fun - don't do it when it's busy - I think people hit it on the way out as the sun goes down because few people will start it that late without a light. Night riding is discouraged as well, but the park IS open 'til 11pm. Confirm with rangers if you have any doubts.
