MoMBA

Average Rating:    (4.22 of 5)

Due to open September 15, 2007. This facility features the area’s first fully sustainable trail system designed to IMBA standards, specifically for mountain bike use. The area features great terrain and natural assets, including beautiful hardwoods, a rock-bottom creek, great hills and rock-filled ridge. The trail consists of over 8 miles of trail for the most advanced to the novice rider. Volunteers have set over 20 tons of rock and built over 800 feet of bridges and boardwalks.

The trail itself consists of five loops of trails: Yellow Brick Road (beginner; no obstacles, slight/gradual climbs), Blue/Gold/Green loops (intermediate; some climbing, with slightly more undulating terrain), and Hawk's Lair (advanced; rocky, twisty, 100+ feet of climbing). All trails are accessible from the field behind the farmhouse off of Union Road.

THE TRAIL IS CLOSED until the grand opening ceremony on September 15, 2007. Please don't ride on the trail until then as you may damage some of the bridges that are still under construction. See you on the 15th during the grand opening ceremony!

Summary:
MoMBA is a great trail system for all experience levels the trails are a total of 12 mi with the easy trails such as voo-doo and creekside with shallow turns, a few ditch crossings and small bridges to Hawk's lair their experienced trail with numerous rock gardens and hilly switchbacks. overall my favorite trail in the Dayton area. mr zig-zag is either a downhill loop or a nice uphill workout depending on which way u go. the skill levels are also reflected in the changes in elevation wide range of flat and hilly. no skills park at the moment but i was told there was one in the plans in the next year or two. they are always upgrading so there are always new things to explore. again a very well maintained, well balanced trail for XC bikers. relatively current trail map at (http://www.metroparks.org/Parks/PublicationFolder/Huffman_BikeTrails.pdf ). call 937-277-4347 for trail conditions and closings.

Recommended Route:
anyway u want

Summary:
What a great trail system!! Very well marked and rides for every ability, unless your a rock star out at Moab, then this will be pretty easy. Nothing to technical on any trail except for Hawks, upper ridge. Nice flow even for the tight design.

Recommended Route:
All of them.

Here's and address to get to MoMBA:

4485 Union Schoolhouse Rd
Dayton, OH 45424

Google Maps and most GPS systems will get you there. MapQuest has not liked this address in the past.

And yes, the entrance is via an old farm.

Recommended Route:
It's all good.

Summary:
This is a nice trail system. Makes good use of the terrain and has a little bit of everything to challenge most riders. I would definitely ride this trail again. Lots of rolling terrain smooth hardpack with no sand. Slower going due to the twisty nature. Trail is two way so 'head's up'

Recommended Route:
I rode Creekside to Upper Stealth to Hawk's Lair (go right or CCW) back via Voodoo to Mr Zig Zag then Twisted and out via the rest of Creekside. That was about a 7.6 mile ride. Missed Lower Stealth and some of Creekside.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
I rode John Bryan and Alum Creek P1 the same day. Both really nice trails

Summary:
This is the only trail I've ever road on, but it seems challenging enough to a beginner and/or intermediate level rider. Lots of acending and decending switchbacks along with nice creekcrossings and bridges. whiped out a few times since riding it, but getting better. Well maintained and a good workout.
