There is about 8 miles of trail. It starts at the corner of Vess Rd. and Wally Rd. The first mile is a killer uphill. We did a lot of walking the first mile. It isn't extremely steep, just continuous and non-stop (Granny Gear). Once you get to the top of the hill and you ride through the field is almost all downhill from there. If you end the ride back at the bottom of Vess Rd (after riding through the log cabin), its about 2 miles. Cross over Vess Rd and head back into the woods for another 2 miles of sweet single track (pretty tight stuff, if going fast.)
There is another section, about 2.5 miles, above the horse stables that has a long climb, but doable. Once you get to the top of this hill it is entirely downhill, no pedalling at all. There are various places where you can turn left or right. Always turn left to get the longest trail ride as possible.
The campground is a great place to stay for the weekend and get a few rides in, plus canoeing!
I think the few long uphills are the toughest in Ohio. Again, they aren't extremely steep, just long and non-stop.
Get to Loudenville, Ohio (east of Mansfield, near Mohican State Park). Just south of Loudenville, off Rt 3 is Wally Rd (R.R. 3175). Take Wally Rd past all the campgrounds and canoeing places until you get to Mohican Wilderness Campround. You can park there and speak with Ryan, he drew a great map of the trails for us. The trails begin at Wally Rd and Vess Rd at the far end of the campround.
Summary: On my first time on this trail I started riding up the begining hill. If you're like me and love hills, the begining of this trail is awsome. After the first mile or so it is a fast trail! I especially love all the dips and rock beds that really give you an adrenalin rush! I also liked the fact that it was really dry. I mean when I went trail running on the other trails, they were soggy and vertually flooded; not on this trail. I really liked this trail and thought it was exciting since you can cruise really fast, you have to use your skills for dodging or going over rock beds and sharp turns, and it makes you use up a lot of leg strength. It is a good technical course that has a lot of speed!
Recommended Route: Start at the begining of the trail where the steep hill is because there are people who do it backwards and thats fine, but I think it is a lot more fun when your going the right way.

Summary: First mile is a killer. But the after you reach "top of the world" the trail becomes fast with several technical rock gardens. Very very cool rock gardens. Many sections force you into an awesome groove with the fast and curvy. Not as tight or technical as Vultures Knob but faster. Very picturesque. Probably the most beautiful single track in Ohio. The only reason I rate it 5 for aerobic difficulty is the first climb up from the trail head other than that It's probaby a 2.5.
Recommended Route: I would bag the first mile of uphill and use Big Hill Road to access three routes from the top. 1. Downhill course, 2. The trail head coming up from the parking lot (ride down it) 3. Trail leading from the corner of Stumbaugh and Big hill Road (one of the coolest pine forest sections I've ridden as you dump into the field above the parking lot). That would be sweet and you'd knock out the uphill cranking the gravel road.
Other recommended trails in the same area: Vultures Knob is wicked fun by anyone's standards.
