Jefferson Lake State Park
2 reviews
 2 of 5

The trails at Jefferson Lake State Park are described in the book from Single Track Press in great detail. The mountain biking is legal, however, just because something is legal doesn't make it something you should do. The trails are created via a bulldozer and are either dust or mud. Side trails around mud patches aren't created with bikes - they're created with another bulldozer. Most of the trails run straight up or straight down, too. To make it even more fun, what doesn't have mud on it has horsesh!t all over it. The Lakeside and Trillium trails are the most rideable, but that isn't saying much at all. Perhaps the most amazing thing about this place is that when you find a good line or a decent amount of trail, a horse had already beaten you to it. Unbelieveable. I apologized to my mountain bike when I got back to the car and vowed to never come back. I wouldn't either. Pick anything else in the area... not this.

From Stuebenville, take the US route out of town to SR 43. Go east about five miles and look for a sign to the park on the right. Take this road down to the beach.

Ridden Trail:
Once a year

Reviewed by: Hop-a-long , from cowlumbus

Summary:
Like the book says, some of the new trails are awful. Wide, wet, horse cratered. But there are a few good rides there. The Lakeside and trillium rail are both fun. The whole family can probably manage the Lake loop.

Recommended Route:
Just follow the recommendations in the Mountain Biking Ohio book by Single Track Press. It's not as bad as the other reviewer said.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Beaver Creek, Mickey's Mountain

Summary:
See my comments in the trail review above. This place is a rotten place to bike and I wouldn't even let my enemies ride here.

Recommended Route:
Drive past this place... don't go there. Go to West Virginia - you're close enough as it is.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Donlinson Run in West Virginia is some sweet riding that's about thirty minutes away from here. Other than that, either check out the stuff in Wayne or stay home.
