Dillon State Park

This trail was created and is maintained by Appalachia Outdoor Adventures (AOA). It consists of 3 levels of trails green, yellow, and red. Easy, intermediate, and expert respectfully. The green makes up about 2% of the trail; it's just a warm up trail before you drop into the forest. The yellow makes up about 90% of the trail. It consists of tight singletrack that's pretty twisty and sweeping with a few switchbacks. There is also some small logs and stream crossings, not much elevation change the whole park is pretty flat. There are some climbs but nothing that steep and nothing that long and grueling. The red makes up that last 8% and its very sweet single track. Very rocky, not that steep, tight switches, stream crossings, log piles, small drops, etc. There are two red sections in the whole park making up about maybe 3 miles total. The first red section is about 1 1/2 mile you can catch it about 1 mile after the trail starts the next one is about the same distance and you can catch that about 5 miles into the ride. Overall this park has everything you want and nothing don't. There are no huge climbs and no huge tricks, drops, or stunts. So freeriders are out of luck here. But it's a really good XC trail.
Don't head out without a map they are downloadable at the joinomba.org/aoa website. Tails are marked with white color coded poles that indicate whether you are on biking, hiking, or horse trail. Bike poles have color coded caps that indicate level of trail, green = easy, yellow = intermediate, red = expert.
Dillon State Park, park at the beach parking lot. Trailhead and kiosk is located in the Northwest corner of the large field beside the beach parking lot.
Summary: I think this is a great trail. Definitely one of the best in Southeast Ohio. I would desribe it as a fast and flowy trail once you get in bast the first couple miles. The first mile is a nice field loop for a warm up and the you start the second which is a slight uphill with plenty of technical rocks, roots and switchbacks to get you into the woods. Once you're in, the fun begins. The trails smooths out some and there are some nice slight descents that allow you to carry some speed. Only one or two real climbs on the trail, but they are all doable. You'll find a couple bridges and skinnies along the way as well. I think this trail offers a little taste of everything for all of the cross country folks out there. I just seem to have a good time everytime I go there.

Summary: Nice trail for a day trip or maybe a weekend getaway. To have fun catch it on a dry day and ride all the red sections to get the most for your money. For Ohio...it's pretty good.
Recommended Route: All trails to the marina and back for a decent workout.
Other recommended trails in the same area: Take the girlfriend or wife to Lake Hope.
For some good climbs do Great Seal.
Stay away from the Wilds and AEP unless you like mosquitoes and spiders.

Summary: This place is a lot of fun. There has been some new trails cut since I was last here. The old trail is well cut and a nice mix of ups and downs. The terrain has lots of roots and rocks which can create a nice balancing act. Occasionally there would be some long ladder bridges over wet terrain or 6-8" inch boards to ride over. It was a lot of fun. The new trail was not as well planned. Much of it was newly cut and had many unrideable sections. Once it gets ridden more it should make for a nice place to get 8-16 miles of riding in.

Summary: a good trail that with rolling inclines. not much of any climbing, but the constant rolling inclines can make it a fast course. for technical riding its not bad, but their is some very technical rock gardens to ride through.

Summary: AWESOME trail! it is showing some signs of wear. we need to get out and do some maintenance before it is too late. beautiful area, some pretty technical area, pretty well marked, some great steep (but short) climbs. the builders did a GREAT job of making the most of the trail. Dillon is one of my favorites.
unfortunately, too many people have ridden this trail in the mud, so there are some really worn sections which really, really need maintenance. and, when you get close to the beach (to where you can see the grassy area), there are probably 3 dump trucks full of garbage. i assume this isn't from bikers (undoubtedly, and sadly, some of it obviously is). some trail maintenance and grounds cleaning will make this place perfect.
thanks to those who have put up the hard work.
Recommended Route: start in the parking lot, go to the right until you hit the yellow trail. follow to the red sections. once back on the yellow, follow the 'anchor' signs until you get to the 6 way intersection, turn sharp right, follow the beach/swimmer signs back.
