Upper Wilson Ridge

Average Rating:    (4 of 5)

Fun, short, and fast. It is great as a loop that you can do more than once or link it to Lower Wilson Ridge or School House for an epic ride. By itself, Upper Wilson Ridge is an easy ride that is too much fun. 21 Jumps are pretty worn down but they are still well worth a little bit of air time. The cribbed log pyramid is great! The uphill single track is short but challenging (I''ve never seen the steepest uphill section completly ridden but I am sure it is doable). My favorite is the downhill gulley section. The dirt road ride back is well worth the single track. The trail is best appreciated a 2nd or 3rd time.

Trail Directions
From Morganton, Hwy 181 to right turn onto Brown Mtn Beach / Adako Rd then left immediatly after you cross Wilson Creek. Stay on FR 1328 until you come to a T with NC 90. Take a left. Follow NC 90 past Mortimer, Edgemont, and Coffey's General Store. Keep driving past FR 4068 and after a steep section of uphill, look for unmarked gated road on right. The trail head is just past the gate to the right. It is single track down hill, a little uphill, then screaming downhill gullies that ends at a drit road. There will be some small turn outs on the sngle track but stay on the well beaten path. At one point you can take a right to go straight down to School House or left for a little more fun down hill -not as steep as the right but more of it. Take a right onto the dirt road (FR 4068) then another right onto NC 90 back to the car. At the dirt road, take a right

Starts off with a section called 21 Jumps! How sweet is that? Great as a loop / great as a warm up to Schoolhouse. Remote enough to never be crowded.
I gave it a low technical rating but there is plenty of opportunities to make it challenging and hit some sweet lines - uphill and downhill.

Its all good in the Wilson Creek Wilderness Area
