rtp trail

Average Rating:    (4 of 5)

No. of Reviews: 3

This trail is located at Louis Stephens and Development drive. The longitude and latitude are 35.866526, -78.884169 and it is on the right hand side of the road. Look for the first available trail head, and then just follow the trail. There are logs, skinnies, dips and hills. Overall, this would be a great trail for an intermediate rider or an advanced rider looking for a short ride/warm up. It was recently build in the summer of 2009 with possible plans of expansion.

Summary:
Just rode RTP for the first time. And although it is short, it's "new" and not eroded yet. This means it's not covered in roots and it's VERY smooth. Unlike other more "broken in" trails in this area, this is a rarity. Lots of potential there for more trail, and so far what has been built is very good and fun. It's got good flow and some fun dips. There are no big hills, so the climbing junkies or cardio freaks won't like it. But it's a nice little gem in the middle of the "Park".

Recommended Route:
It all loops...just keep going!

Summary:
This is a great trail to ride if you are looking for a trail that you can come to again and again. More experienced riders can do laps around the trail to get a workout. If you go to the website
http://www.smartcommute.org/sites/default/files/RTP%20Mountain%20Bike%20Trail%20-%20Phase%201.pdf then you will find a much better layout/location of the trial.

Recommended Route:
Take Davis Drive until you get to Louis Stephens drive. Go under the 540 bridge, then keep going for about 2 miles until Louis Stephens makes a sharp right. Within 200 yards will be a trail entrance refer to the website http://www.smartcommute.org/sites/default/files/RTP%20Mountain%20Bike%20Trail%20-%20Phase%201.pdf for more information.
