Pickelsimer Field-Pisgah NF

I'm not a local, so take these directions with a grain of salt...This is a link-up of Caney Bottom and Pickelsimer fields. From fish hatchery, go left out of parking lot, and climb up 475B (fire road on right). After Looking glass overlook, take FR225 (on your left). After about 1mile, you will come to the Caney Bottom trail head on your left. Take this to Cove Creek (?) campground. An awesome downhill singletrack run. Once you are at campground, take a right on the fire road, you'll cross a creek and take another right. After a few miles on the fire road and some hateful climbing, you'll come to the Cemetary loop/Pickelsimer fields trailhead on your left. Take this back to the fish hatchery. An awesome ride overall

GREAT trail...always a blast...HIGHLY recommended...I miss east coast singletrack. The trail is somewhat technical with rolling terrain and some creek crossings. This is what mountain biking is all about.

Recommended Route:
See above, including cemetery loop.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Pisgah NF trails adjacent to the horse stables (when they are dry).

The first climb up 475B is tough and tedious. The ride down Caney Bottom is pretty good--not quite as good as some others in Pisgah though--there's a lot of places where you're forced to dismount and carry your bike across log bridges. The ride from Cemetery Loop back to the Fish Hatchery is awesome, but, again, remember that it's seasonal!

Recommended Route:
The route above is indeed an interesting link-up...however, keep in mind that the Cemetery Loop/Butter Gap/Cat Gap Loop trails that you take back to the fish hatchery are SEASONAL ONLY! That means they are open to bikes from October 15 to April 15 ONLY! Please keep off these trails in the summer to avoid them being closed all year!

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Combine Cat Gap trail and Butter Gap trail with gravel roads and Long Branch trail for an excellent loop.
