Brand-new legal singletrack in the Triangle. Many thanks to all those that developed this! Rode the trail yesterday for the first time. Overall a pretty nice system. Unfortunately, though, it was still quite muddy even though it hadn't rained in nearly one week. Maybe this is due to soil compaction issues with the new trail, not sure. Tight singletrack with "hard" and "easy" forks at various points. Hard seems to mean log crossings. Other than that I didn't find the trail especially challenging (there are a lot of downed logs, btw, maybe as many as 15-20 to deal with). Trail seemed to get more interesting as it went along. A good work out with lots of hills. I think I hit most all the sections and it took me about one hour. I think this trail will become more interesting over time as roots and rocks reveal themselves. I enjoyed myself but not as much as I do at the High School or New Light trails to be honest. Again, I think it's a bit early to rate these trails -- they've been open less than one month after all!!! Check it out!

Trail Directions
Park entrance is on Guess Rd, about 1.1 miles into Orange County. From I-85 in Durham exit onto Guess Rd(Hwy 157) and go N. app 12 miles. After passing a convenience store on your L watch for the second entrance to Bromley Rd on right. Park entrance is after that. Watch for the Orange Co line and the entrance is a half mi or so beyond that.

Summary:
Tight singletrack: lots of tight turns bordered by close trees; a few bumps, 5-6 logs (5"-12" diameter), a few somewhat steep but short climbs, relatively few roots and rocks. The trail system is very similar to Crabtree, but a little slower, due to all the turns. It drains well, so is almost always open, but you pay the price with few good downhill runs and flowy sections.

Recommended Route:
Go right at each intersection, or, go left. I don't think there's a convention of direction - I passed several riders going the other way.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
I prefer Beaverdam, Crabtree, and New Light, but, they're also closer to me.

Summary:
Thanks very much to DOMBO, Parks& Rec (Durham and Orange), and everyone else for creating this new trail.

There is a marked difference between the hard and easy trails, with more hard climbing and free-wheeling descents on the hard section, and a much more accessible setting for the easy. Both sets of trails are windy, twisty, turny, and provoke a bit of trail fixation. A handful of bridges, a few cleverly exposed rocks, a nice little skinny (that rests on the ground for novices to train on), keep an eye open for the forks. I did not see as many log crossings as the previous reviewer, but my partner got a flat and so had to go back to the parking lot and by the time we got back out on the trail we did not have the time to get all the way around the far ‘hard’ loop. The easy loop would be a very good place to take young riders, timid riders, or first timers. They will not make it around the hard loop though as there are some really steep climbs, which are great for intermediate or better riders (my rule of thumb is that if I can make the climb, then it isn’t too hard, and I made all the climbs).

Again, great work by all involved, and thank you.

Recommended Route:
Start in the lot using the Right Hand Rule: pick up the trail on the right side of the lot and make all right turns along the way and you will see most of what the trail has to offer.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
CHHS (and the trails across the tracks from CHHS) is still my favorite.

Summary:
Very well built trail and great layout considering all the different user groups at play. Solid XC miles to be had, no big downhills or freeride stuff but a good workout.
