Francis Beatty Park

Rolling Singletrack. 4 miles constructed to date. Total will be 8-9 miles when finished. The current trail is a loop that goes around the entire park. It is not technical, and it is maintained very well by the Tarheel Trailblazers Bike Club. The remaining 4 miles will be technical and will be finished by end of 2000. Fun trail - fast.

Hard to enjoy when your car's getting broke into to...

Recommended Route:
Route from the tennis cout although now I will park at the main office parking lot and ride the road round to my normal loop start at the tennis court. I've been hearing a lot of folks have been geting their cars broken into there. Shame you can't even enjoy a nice ride without stressing about your property.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Pee Wee's, Beech Springs, Hickory Park,

Summary:
The loop is complete now, roughly 7.7 miles I think. Very well maintained by the Tarheel Trailblazers. Good mix of climbs and fast downhill sections, nothing too crazy but very narrow for the most part and tons of roots that will beat you up on a hardtail requiring a lot of out of the seat riding.

Recommended Route:
When you enter the park, take your first left and park at the tennis courts, then ride back out the way you came and enter the trail on the right side of the road where the bike sign is. Very easy to find.

Summary:
Extensive clearing of woods is currently being done at FJB. About 1/5 of the loop has been removed. Looks like homes will be going up in place of the trail. Currently, there is no "loop" unless you can find the entrance back into the trail.

Summary:
The trail is fun to ride but not too technical for the most part. There are side loops that make the trail as hard as you want. This trail is for all ranges for skill. New riders can have fun as well as long time riders.

Recommended Route:
Start from the parking lot and jump right on the trail. You can't get lost.

Summary:
Great trail for beginners, fun trail for advanced riders. Not really anything to challenging on the main 4.5 mile loop. You can add a little more technical stuff by taking the 1.5 mile optional. Total distance can be around 6 miles. Check http://www.smallbrowndog.com for a map. I walked the trail with my GPS and we did a Quicktime Virtual tour of the trail. Check it out.

Recommended Route:
Start at the lake parking lot and head in counter-clockwise.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Reni, Poplar, Catawba
