Summary:
We hoped for better. The village itself was cool and the idea of trails right by it was very nice. We hopped on Llewelyn Loop and it was a good bit of climbing to start. Went up to Fontana Rd and enjoyed the area. Coming back down the switchbacks and rocks were fun when ridable. Some of it was crazy so we didn't ride it all. All was good until the trail then got confusing after the stream crossing. Maintenance of the trail dropped massively after the stream and it became a walking hike until near the end. Very disappointing. Had I know it was that poor, we could have skipped the switchbacks and rode back down and had a much better experience. I was just surprised at how quickly the quality dropped. I hope someone is planning some maintenance! Being by a nice hotel area, I expected better.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Tsali - much, much better maintained.

Summary:
Rode there this May- disapointed. Llewelyn Loop was fun but short. Everything else was not maintained at all- so many downed trees it turned into a hike-a-bike at times. Looks as if no one has ridden there in a long, long time. Go to Tsali or Bent Creek or Pisgah or kerr-scott instead if you are planning a mtn bike trip to NC!

Summary:
The trail is amazing! A lot of people compare it to Tsali, but beware, these trails are way more technical than Tsali. The scenery is pretty similar, that is where the similarities end. Fontana is a great intro to downhill.....technical rock gardens, stream crossings, and log crossings. I highly recommend going with someone who has ridden the trail before since many of the trails cross eachother and they are not well marked. Unless Fontana Village has hired new people to work in the shop i recommend talking to people at the NOC bike shop, since those in the Fontana shop were idiots. If you work in a bike shop you should at least ride. The trails need a little maintainence, but well worth the ride. Be prepared for long climbs and descents, as well as some steep ones.

Recommended Route:
Whiting/first blood.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Tsali, Shell Stand Creek, Flint Ridge

Summary:
This review is for Lewellyn Loop only. It is about 3.5 miles and begins right off of Hwy 28. As you get started you roll along above Hwy 28 through some beautiful forest. There is a great mossy bridge with a cool little waterfall. From here you roll along for a bit more before you come to what my buddy and I have termed "Hell" lol. Seriously though, get ready for some climbing up rocky, technical single track. I rode everything at Tsali and Flint Ridge with no problem and I had to push my bike on four of the hills at Lewellyn. Once you get to the top there is an amazing view of fontana dam. After the climbs, the trail becomes fast rolling single and double track before ending back out on Hwy 28

Recommended Route:
We followed the trail to the fork at which point we turned right. Left takes you back out for a longer ride into Lewellyn Cove. From the entrance on Hwy 28 go left and have fun

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Tsali, especially Thompson Loop and Flint Ridge behind the NOC

Summary:
Went to Fontana Village with every expectation of going to ride Tsali a few times but was content to stay at FV and ride. Lots of short loops and connections to other trails. Nice trails, technical and well maintained. Stop by the bike shop and get a map for $1. Also talk to them about what trails are best to ride.

Recommended Route:
Llewelyn Cove Loop (CCW) to Fontana Road, hang a right and go about 1/2 mile to Gold Branch on left. That makes about a 6-7 mile loop crossover Hwy 28 and run Hoor Hollow down to the Texaco. If Great Smoky Mt has been cleaned up that is a good finish to make 10-12 miles. I turned on GSM and started to bike and hike and went back to Hoor Hollow for a great downhill. Also Elmer Hollow and Whiting is a nice trail either direction.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Tsali
