Summary:
As everyone has said before the climb up the switchbacks can be a grind. My mistake was to start at the parking lot, in a van down by the river. The blacktop climb up to the dirt is far worse than the switchbacks. Take other peoples advise and start in the feild area near the bus.

Once at the top, the trail is well maked and a breeze to follow. It is a good trail that flows. Honestly its alot like tsali with wide contour running singletrack. Not alot of up and down after the switchback climb. It lacks the technical challenges of other NC singletrack. The
trail is wide and smooth with out roots or logs. Which makes for a quick ride. The ride back down the switchback is a blast its just to short!

Worth the effort if your in the area. Go whitewater rafting in the morning and ride in the afternoon or vise/versa. Thanks to NOC

Lolipop

LOVE THIS TRAIL!!! Don't let the beginning climb scare you. The grades are pretty moderate. Once you're done with this climb, let the fun begin. Fun, twisty, rolling singletrack. At mile 4.7, you can choose to either bomb down a steep, rutty old logging road, or go back down the switchbacks.

Recommended Route:
Get a map at the NOC.

Summary:
If you like to climb this is the trail for you! The first bit is killer but once you make it to the top of the 9 switch backs it quickly becomes worth the effort. More technical than Tsali for sure. From the top the view is amazing. If you are in the area, Id say this is a must ride. I gave it a 5 on the aerobic rating because of the climb at the start, it is brutal but worth it

Recommended Route:
Drive up to the old barn with the broken down school buses and just head up the trail marked on the left. Get ready to climb. At the first fork in the trail head left to get the entire loop. Towards the end you will come out on top of the hill, you can choose to continue on single track and head towards the switch backs from the beginning or bomb down the fire road all the way to the bottom. Your choice

Other recommended trails in the same area:
All the trails at Tsali, especially Thompson Loop. Fontana Village is nice too.

Summary:
Hey guys, Dave at the NOC bike shop here. I just thought I'd let you know that three new obstacles have just been built on the main loop of the Flint Ridge trail. This is the first step in turning this trail into a challenging, technical ride instead of "Tsali, Part II". All obstacles have a "sneak route" around them, so this is still a beginer-friendly trail. Stop by the bike shop for the scoop and to let us know what you think of the new additions.
