This trail is small (3.1mi) but it will challenge your technical skills to a moderate degree. There are a handful of fun-sized log crossing, many off-camber turns, and lots 'n lots of roots! There is a small climbing section called, "The Anaconda" about half-way into the ride that could prove difficult to those who are lacking in stamina. This is a fairly maintained trail that doesn't see alot of use so don't be surprised if you don't see anyone else out there.

Trail Directions
Seymour Johnson AFB is located in the town of Goldsboro. There are signs on all major entry ways leading to Seymour Johnson AFB. You either need to have a military identification card or be escorted by someone who has one to gain access onto base. Once on base follow Wright Bros. Ave. to Andrews St. and take a right. Follow Andrews St. to Curtiss Ave. and take a right. Follow Curtiss Ave. to Lyster St. and take a left. Follow Lyster St. for approx. 200yds. There will be a gravel road on the left. This is where the trailhead is.

Summary:
I'm trying to figure out who is working on this trail.. Ive ridden it at various times of day and never see any one out there. recently a bridge was added and some small off shoots cleared making this trail more rideable but it could use some marking. Otherwise this is a nice, not very difficult trail with a couple of gut checks on the blind drop log pyramids and the rather long log bridge. If you have access ride it, it's a fun short trail.

Recommended Route:
There is no route or trail marking, you can ride where ever you want. Marking a route and direction and blocking off some of the short cuts would make this a great 5 mile loop.

Summary:
This trail is super fun. There is nearly no elevation change but plenty of obstacles. Drop-offs, several log pyramids, double ditches, a 20 foot log ride, a small teeter-toter, and lots of roots. Technically challenging for intermediate riders. No other riders were seen, this trail is not known or ridden except by a priveledge few. A must for any military ID holding moutain biker.

Recommended Route:
Start past the picnic tables in the park and ride any number of intertwined trails as short as 100 yards to if combined up to 5 miles.

Summary:
I've been transplanted from the Desert out to SJAFB against my will, but the riding in North Carolina has been Great! It's good to ride in the shade for a change. Myself and a few friends have been working on the base trail for a couple of years now and try to make it more interesting all the time. It gets a bit overgrown at times, due to the lack of traffic, but we manage to clear out most the fallen trees and such fairly well. There's lotsa technical obstacles if you know where to go and the trail is a really fun ride at night! Just beware of the Damn Spiders! They tend to spin alot of webs in the summer and it's not pleasant to have one of them beast hanging from your visor!
Like the other reviews say, "It's not a long ride" but if you first go one direction and then ride in the opposite...you can get a good 6 to 8 mile ride in and be plently tired drinking a brew afterwards.
All in all the trail isn't that difficult. There are a few dangerous parts that a novice shouldn't try. We have attempted to make "By-passes" around most of them but couldn't in every case.

Recommended Route:
Three and a half Miles of Grueling Mountain Biking Trail!!! Once you cross the Bridge there's NO turning Back!!! Six Exciting Log Pyramids! Up to 3 feet High!
Feel your legs BURN as you climb up to "Adam's Apple"
and work your way through Flash Flood Wash
Next, balance your way across Big Leaf Bridge to
"Quick Turn Pyramid" and wheel your way up "Root Hill!"
Then its the "Claw Connection" to "Camelback" to complete the "Figure 8 run!
Now the Real Fun begins...Dare to conquer the The Great Pyramid...the 3 foot Giant! Then, if you survive, attempt to defeat "Dead Dudes Drop!" Gear your way around and scale "The Edge!" It's a long way down, so if you're Scared...you better stay home!
Finish off the loop with a fast ride through the "Berm" and "Quick Gulch" back to the Bridge.
Cross over to more fun with The Ditch! a dizzying 4 foot drop after a small uphill log crossing.
More tricky stuff abounds on Dead Dog Pass and Four-Banger Loop So hit it like you mean it and Enjoy the Ride!

Summary:
A great trail, its not too technical but it is challenging for a begginer too intermediate rider. Its not too long of a trail but there are soo many side trails all over the place that you could ride for quite a while without retracing your footprints so to speak. there is a couple of uphills, some log crossings, and OH SOO many roots. mostly single track and I have yet to come across someone else riding these trails, I think that they aren't too well known even for people on base. If you have access to military installations, I highly recommend these trails. BUT remember you must have a military ID or know someone on base to get to the trails.

Recommended Route:
IMO there is no real route, there are side trails interconnecting everything, everywhere.

Summary:
This trail will challenge your technical skills to some degree. If your a beginner, you will walk in some places. There are good-sized log crossing, a small climbing section (with log crossing on it), a couple of small downhills, and a shit-load of roots! Skilled beginners and above will have a blast! The novice beginner will learn some new skills. It's a good trail to race around on with your friends because it's small and tight. You will have to do 3-4 laps to get a good aerobic work-out. But in doing this, your body will feel like it has been run over by a Mack Truck because of all the roots! Enjoy...

Recommended Route:
It's hard to describe the recommended route. I've done the trail so many times, I guess I don't think about where to turn and where not to. It would be best to just hook-up with someone who knows the route. But if you do decide to explore, you won't have to worry about getting lost (the trail area isn't that big), and you'll still have a lot of fun.
