UNWC aka Catawba Riverfront Park
1 reviews
 4 of 5

11 +/- miles of HARDPACKED twisty Carolina singletrack - ish type trails. This is the old Catawba Riverfront Park aka Historic Tuckaseegee Ford Park.It never was much to behold in the past, just a little parking area, some great trail and I85 and some huge powerlines overhead. well thats all changed now. Enter the US National Whitewater Center. If you build it they will come and so they have. The Whitewater Center obliterated some trail but the TARHEEL TRAILBLAZERS have done a great job to bring this place back up to its past glory. However, in bringing the outdoors to the masses and in some respects bringing the masses to the outdoors some of the edginess or tech aspects of the trail have been lost. Say WAL Mart meets singletrack. A little sumthin' for everyone but with everything accessible and homogenized. The trail is HEAVILY used and very well packed. The roots even have a shine to them from thousands and thousands of knobbies. Trail is very well marked and not very tech but certain sections at speed will put you in the hospital.Pay Attention do not let your mind wander here. Most of your tech stuff is down by the river in the form of root balls and twisty trail. Figure Eight Trail is not as tech as they lead you to believe but drops need your full commitment. I got at least five feet of air off a couple. All in All trail can be ridden at a blistering twelve mile an hour average with a thirty mile an hour top speed by an accomplished rider. Yes its a great ride but for an older SOUL RIDER such as my self its too umm civilized.

Summary:
Great find for out of towners looking to maintain riding endurance, explore somebody else's trails and have fun. Very twisty, few small hills, some technical aspects and about 11 miles of trails. Worth the stop, really cool place to see. We'll go back. (From Pittsburgh)

Recommended Route:
Just follow the signs, really can't get lost.
