Country Park Trails

Mostly singletrack. There is a gravel lot that is crossed and also some pavement can be incorporated into you loop. But, watch out for walkers and other slower riders on the pavement! This trail has a few climbs to get your heart rate up a little bit but nothing that is sustained for too long. It's a good flowing trail and typically fast and rolling. More additions have been added to give length to the loop. Don't cut through to other trails that you see because you'll just get lost. There is an intended loop so just follow it the best you can. Some stunts are being erected to test the freeriders in us. Ride at your own risk! You've been warned. The trail typically stays pretty dry but keep off for at least 24 hours after a rain and longer if it was heavy. It saves the trail. The bottom line is that this is a great after work ride. For more length, add some laps or head down the greenway to the Owls Roost singletrack which is part of Bur-Mil park.

Trail Directions
Well there are several ways to enter Country Park and get onto the single track. Probably the easiest to find and best place to enter is at the Lewis Recreation Center parking lot. It is just off of Pisgah Church Road near the intersection of Battleground Avenue and Pisgah Church. Park in the lot closest to Safety Town (a kids traffic safety miniature town) and enter the trail in the corner of the lot. This trail is a loop that will bring you back to where you started but it crosses some areas where you may not find the next section of trail. The best thing to do is get another rider to show you around. Or, visit Cycles deOro (336)274-5959 and someone there may be able to help. Feel free to e-mail me at scvines70@yahoo.com and I can hopefully meet you there for a ride. A kiosk will be erected in the near future at the trail head with maps and event info.

Summary:
Country Park Mt. bike trail located off Battleground Ave / Pisga Church Rd. in Greensboro, NC right next to "safety town" is a trail that offers a lot of fun. Being fairly new to biking, I find that it is as challenging as I need it to be, or more. It has fast sections, with somewhat tight turns, plenty of fairly steep up hill runs, and average technical challenges along the way. Logs, roots, drop offs, small jumps, loose gravel, and a few bridge crossings keep you on your toes.
The trail is almost 6 miles of single track, recently lengthened from about 4.5 or so. It winds through some pretty woods, and some of the historic Battleground area. Some of the newer sections may be hard to follow until you become more familiar. Also located in the same parking area is the "greenway" paved trail which will take you to Birmil Park, 5 miles away...which offers 3 or so different Mt. bike trails...about 10 miles worth from what I recall. So, if you're up for a long day of riding, you can park in one spot and ride all day long, on a bunch of different routes. If you're up for lots of air time, the "free ride" section is also available to challenge your jumping skills. (I haven't tried it)

Recommended Route:
From the parking lot "safety town" fence line entrance the trail splits left or right....I personally go right and follow the route. The newly added sections may not be as visible, but the main trail is easy to follow.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Greenway
Birmil Park
Free - ride section of Country Park
Reedy Fork Trail (right next to lake Brandt spill way on Lake Brandt Road)

Summary:
Wish I had access to a trail like this from my back yard. Lots of fun for the intermediate/advanced rider, good place to learn for the beginner. You may get disoriented, but you'll never be far from a paved road if you do. Just stay on the trail and you'll find your way out soon. A few technical areas, including a short, steep drop to a narrow bridge, but not very technical otherwise. Some twisty areas and plenty of opportunities to get a little speed up.
