Trail Directions
Go to the Mast General Store in Valle Crucis, then park and unload in the park with the soccer fields. Ride on the roads downstream until you get to Watauga River Road. In about 1+1/2 miles it turns to hard packed gravel. Lousy riding, unbeatable scenery.

Summary:
this ride used to be on packed dirt/gravel, but is now mostly paved road and more travelled than a few years ago. it's still beautiful and easy, but you'd be better off on a raod bike or XC ride. oh, yeah. when i rode this route years ago, there was a HUGE, FAST and SGNARLY dog in the curve with the old store/house in it. lucky for me i was in front!

Recommended Route:
for mountain bikers, not at all.

Summary:
Damn, this "trail" was listed in a North Carolina tourist handout as one of the best places to ride in this state! Okay, the river is pretty, but I was riding this on my giant unicycle and I never even lost it once? Don't bother with this unless it is just too muddy to ride a real trail; it was a nice break from the Greenway.Bring a fishing pole and a soccer or basketball... PRETTY SCENERY.
