Wash Creek Area
8 reviews
 4.63 of 5

There are several good trails in this area. Some named are Bear Creek, Trace Ridge, Spencer Gap, Spencer Branch, Fletcher Creek, Middle Fork, Big Branch ( which connects to Laurel Mtn. Trail ). Many creek & river crossings are in this area, so they are best enjoyed before winter.

Trail Directions
Hwy. 280 South of Asheville, West of Hendersonville, and North of Brevard. Turn onto N. Mills River Road, and go until the campground, and turn right onto the gravel road FS # 479. Go about 3 miles, and you'll see a bridge on the left. Go across and follow it to the end ( about 1/2 mile ). From here you have several trail options. 1) Never Ending Road : about 15 miles of doubletrack gated gravel road. 2) Trace Ridge : Pretty extreme climb for 3.1 miles, then connects to either the BlueRidge Parkway, Spencer Gap Trail, or go down Spencer Branch Trail. 3) Old Reservoir Road : 1 1/2 mi down to the old lake, from here you can access the lower end of Spencer Branch Trail, and follow it up to connect to either Fletcher Creek or Middle Fork Trails. 4) Lower Trace Ridge Trail : this is one technical downhill, with Wash Creek Trail connecting on the left about 1/2 mile out. If you want to cross the river and continue on, you'll come out at the campground area mentioned earlier.

Summary:
Well, I'm still alive & pedaling...

This area is my overall favorite for WNC. I usually tie in a few of the other trails in the area to add-up to about 10+ miles of great riding...

Hope you all enjoy the area!!!

Recommended Route:
I personally like Never Ending Rd. to Spencer to Reservoir Rd. then back up to the parking lot.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Trace Ride is always a great challenge for ANYONE. I usually ride it about once a month. It's pretty hard, but well worth the good workout....

Summary:
Just wanted to re-iterate what Beastmaster said. Please wear orange out there as a lot of hunters are about. ALL that I have run into where also very unhappy with the fact that there were bikers sharing the trails. Most of the ones I have seen are walking right down the road and firing off into the woods (I'm not sure if they know they were firing over trails in the area)

Recommended Route:
Up never-ending road to Fletcher Creek

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Turkey Pen Gap; Mills River tour

Summary:
There are enuf riding here for a good 1/2 day trek if you choose. I will say that there are quite a few hunters/fishermen/hikers in the area most of the time.

Recommended Route:
This area is alittle more technical than Bent Creek, although there aren't quite as many trails here to choose from. There are about a dozen however, and most of them are very enjoyable. This place is alot more remote than Bent Creek also, so you're less likely to see other bikers. Try the Never Ending Rd. out to one of the trails to the left, Spencer Branch, Fletcher Creek or Middle Fork Trails. they all 3 intersect again before the reservoir and are fairly flat. More experienced riders will enjoy Trace Ridge and Big Branch, along with Bear Creek, Spencer Gap and Moore's Cove Trails.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
They're listed above already....
