Uwharrie National Forest
25 reviews
 4 of 5

There Uwharrie National Forest has over 30 miles of multi-use trails that cross the entire park. There are 8 main trails for use by bikes, 4-wheelers, and motorcycles, and many more secondary trails. There is a $3/day use fee for riding here. Trails range in type from easy rides to exceedingly difficult technical trails. The rides here can be as easy, or as difficult as you want to make them.

Trail Directions
Enter the U.N.F. from HWY 109 approximately 10 miles north of Troy, NC. There is a large National Forest sign right along the highway designating the entrance. There are many miles of Forest Service roads that branch out from the main entrance. A map of this area is highly recommended, as it is easy to get turned around or lost once you get back into the park.

Ridden Once

Summary:
Rode Keyauwee and supertree clockwise then Keyauwee counter clockwise and rode supertree again clockwise. Lot of climbing on Keyauwee either way lots of rocks and roots, couple of creeks. really good trail that would be a little better if there were fewer rocks. Bombing down the downhills gets tiring after you're bounce for so long. Supertree was a blast all the way. If you go clockwise then most of the climbing is done on the double track then you bomb forever. Alot smoother than Keyauwee

Recommended Route:
Keyauwee then Supertree clockwise.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
same old stuff

Summary:
AS NOTED BELOW: There are TWO sets of trails in Uwharrie. The trails in ATV area (directions above) and the trails of highway 24-27 (Keyauwee, Suppertree and Skyrock -- see listing for these trails). Some of the reviews here are for the trails off 24-27. It has been a year or two since I've ridden the trails in the ATV area, but some of these are difficult and not for the novice. Lots of rocks and wash-out and difficult ups and downs. Great place if you like to be bounced around and challenged and punished. Also, many of the trail are wider the traditional single track for the motorcycles and ATVs. I never had a problem with the ATV riders and found most of them to be friendly.

Summary:
The overal place is good and you can take it to the trails if your a first-timer (It is a little rough for them though) to an intermedieate (kikeharrie or somthing like that). The supertree gets confusing at the power lines though. You might want a light bike because there is a 3/4 mile uphill stretch, though.

Recommended Route:
I like the supertree (I'm a beginer). It has a good combo of up and downhills so your not on you smallest gear all of the time. Some of it's hills are unexpected and rocky, so make sure your ready with you brakes.
