, from Fayetteville, NC Summary: This trail isn't maintaned worth a durn. Lots and lots of potential, but it looks like no one has even ridden it in at least a year. Recommended Route: 180 degrees and back to Governor's Creek. Other recommended trails in the same area: Governor's Creek, San-Lee

, from Winston-Salem, NC Summary: Very few rides in this area and this trail definitely needs more tires on it to pack it down. Sandy open sections with slightly rocky sections through the woods . Several creeks to ride along and over. A good workout more than a good ride IMO but if you are in the area check it out. Recommended Route: I rode counter-clockwise but I don't think there would be a big difference either way. Other recommended trails in the same area: Sanford trails

, from Goldsboro, N.C. Summary: Next to some of the Cane Creek Cup race coarses, this has got to be my favorite (Central Carolina Cup Series). Semi-sustained climbs, mud bogs (in the spring), rollercoaster-like flow, and some fast flat sections......a dream to race on! The ponds are a nice scenic bonus (don't know if you can swim in them or not) and the area does lend itself to camping. Recommended Route: From the fire road take the trail leading off to the right. Other recommended trails in the same area: Don't know of any personally. Try asking the LBS.

, from Apex Summary: Like Ken, I too raced this course on Sunday (3/26/00). In short, it was the best course I've raced. It had tight twisty single track, lots of rooty bogs & soupy rock strewn natural springs, fast fire roads, and a few small log crossings. Perfect race course IMHO. Not too much climbing (like Hobby Park), but enough to really get you huffin & puffin on race day. Not too easy (like Devils Ridge) because of the aforementioned root bogs. And best of all, it doesn't really beat you up (like Governor's Creek). Also, a quick tip - DO NOT run slicks out here! I tried that for the race and really struggled with the bogs and had to slow things up a lot on the twisty single track. It should also be said that b/c the trail is loctaed in the "sand hills", there's a fair share of sand out here. Thus, sand mixed with pine straw makes for real tricky curves adn corners when taken at speed. Be sure you have the right tire for this terrain. The infamous bogs also add a real technical aspect that most race courses lack. Many are filled with black water so you don't know how deep it is. And believe you me, some are plenty deep and nasty. Throw in mud encrusted rocks all around said bogs, and you have yourself a tough little obstacle. I think it's possible to ride through them, but during a race it seems more effective to just plow into them, then dismount and run through them. There is also plenty of little "knees" scattered through out the trail. These knees are what's left of a small tree that has been cut during trail construction. A mini-stump if you will. And they also make going around corners that much more interesting - especially at race speeds. Overall though, there wasn't any super technical obstacles like giant unramped logs or ultra steep climbs or 4 foot drops. But, the trail also offers some nice views of the lakes and as I said, the fireroads provide a nice break from the tight single track. Be sure to call Marcus at Rainbow Cycling to get permission to ride. Great trail and a big THANKS to whoever built these trails. Recommended Route: Any direction you want to go. However, I will say that this place is rather difficult to find. Once you get on Flowers Road, take it south until you hit the Diggs Road intersection. Then, take a left on to digs road and start looking for a dirt driveway on your left. There is a rock Shox sticker that marks the trail entrance. Take the dirt road a ways (1/4 - 1/8 miles) into the woods and you'll come to area with a network of ldirt roads - park here. The lake should be on your left. The trail head is pretty easy to find once you're near the lake. Other recommended trails in the same area: Governor's Creek, Devils Ridge, San-Lee, and Uwharrie.
