CHINA CRREK LOOP

Fun, lightly used, and pretty scenery. Trail has multiple creek crossings, some mild climbs and some fun downhill areas.
From downtown Blowing Rock, find Globe road and head down it. Globe road is all down hill and very hard on a car with bad brakes. After about 4 miles, you will notice a pull off on the right off the road. The pull off has another road that goes down to the right. Ride the bikes down this way and look for what looks like a washout on the side of the road on the left. This is the trail.
Summary: Probably the best ride in Boone (if you don't count Wilson's Creek & Pisgah NF). Contains virtually every type of riding in just a few short miles from single track, multiple stream crossings, rocky climbs, smooth doubletrack with water bars which make great jumps, and a 5 mile downhill. There are basically two trails here, the sinletrack trail which parallels the stream (china creek?) for 8-10 miles, and the old fire road which winds up the mountain for aprox 5 miles with a great 360 degree view at the end/top.
Recommended Route: I usually ride down the fire road, over the bridge with water flowing over it to the intersection where the two trails cross the road. Then take a RIGHT up the 6 foot tall, steep incline (other half of the single track back to the car is on LEFT) and ride the single track one way for about 6 miles (almost all uphill), then turn around at the end (someone's back yard), and downhill the whole single track back, cross the intersection and do the other half of the single track back up to the fire road and then take the fire road back to globe road. Overall, makes close to a 15 mile ride.
Other recommended trails in the same area: this fireroad to the end (about 5 miles uphill one way but w/ awsome view at end), Wilson's Creek/Pisgah NF.

Summary: Seems like this trail is gone. Found where it used to be, seemed all grown over and there were "NO TRESPASSING" signs up.

Summary: saw absolutely nobody on this ride in November. Trail was pretty covered, but fun.
Recommended Route: From BR, take Globe road down 3 1/2 miles to trailhead. First time we rode this, we got so carried away on the downhill on the way to the trailhead, that we ended up in Globe before we realized we missed it! From there, follow the trail if you can find it, and prepare to cross China creek multiple times. Do the loop and ride back up to BR..

Ridden Trail: Once a year

Summary: I went to ASU a few years ago, and this trail was epic! Approx 3.5 miles of downhill thrills! We used to be able to make it without dismounting, depending on the creeks depth. I don't remember any big trees being in the way, but that could have changed. We always called this trail the Globe. You have to have two cars to ride it. Take both cars to the trails end(Brown Mtn Beech Rd), and then leave one. You will be able to ride harder/faster and have a lot more fun! Even though it is downhill you will be worn out, and probably bleeding.
Recommended Route: Listen to Brad(Big Brain) from Boone below about how to start riding this trail, screw the loop. This is the best trail anywhere near Boone and Blowing Rock.
Other recommended trails in the same area: 21 JumpStreet, Brown Mtn, just before the top of Howard's Knob(off to the left)

Ridden Trail: Ridden Once

Summary: Relatively desolate, only ran across a few other people. I would rate this loop as a intermediate level trail. Nothing extremely hair raising but that's cool. The creek crossings were pretty fun, the water was low so they weren't impossible to negotiate. There's a few wicked jumps. Blowing Rock is a beautiful place, reminded me alot of West Virginia. I'm sure there's a lot more trails in the area. would like to return soon.
Recommended Route: I did the loop. I think I clocked it at 6 miles.
