Ridden Trail: Once a week

, from Raeford Summary: The single track is awesome with some great jumps. You can get some major air in the jump pit. Overall this track will kick your ass. Cant tell you how many times I have crashed and tore up my ride here. For all of you that continue to improve the track, I love some of the new additions. Keep up the great work Recommended Route: If you are afraid of gettiing caught riding illegal. I reccomend you park in the employee part of the PX parking lot. (Behind the PX) There is a fire break directly behind there that will take you to Chicken Road. Ride across the small bridge and take a left into the next fire break. From here there are many entrances into the trail. Pick one and have fun! Other recommended trails in the same area: Hefner and Smith Lake.

, from FortBragg Summary: This trail offers several great choices to go out and bust your lungs. 2 main loops and several hidden paths within the loops. There is an outstanding slalom/bmx style portion of track about 1/4 o' a mile long which you can catch some serious air and rail some sharp turns. These trails are as hard as your balls can make them. If you like to ride drops and roll ins.....well do not worry about that just look around chicken rd. You will see some other cool stuff just off the assfault. Speaking of ass. There seems to be lots of people worrying about were you by your rig from. Personaly I started with the bike shop but have moved onto my friends and online. If you are a "real" athlete or "real" biker you do not need someone to work on your shit anyway if you want to get "real". This trail is maintained by locals I work my ass off here once a week maintaining it and I ride it at least once a week. The hefner trails are about 1.5 miles from here. They are all single track out there and are meticulously maintained. Chicken offers a "bmx pit" as it is called by some and not to far from there there is a crater with about 1,000 different possiblities for drops. Do not get caught rollin' the crater it could be bad gugu. Watch out for bo-hunters on saturday. Sunday is a non huntin' day. The dumbasses at the guard point do not care about bikers either but then again I never stopped for a photo with them. Smith lake is great if you like pine needles and sand. Nothing quite like sliding out in a corner because you did not stop and walk. Get the point. Recommended Route: Same as everyone else. SO I aint gonna waste time tellin' ya how to get there from the commisary or morganton road. Or about how if you see the guard trailor on chicken road on your left you can pull over on the left side of the road kinda in da woods at the 3 way stop and then go up into the tree line up the big bank and you will run into the trail. Other recommended trails in the same area: Hefner elementary. Go to the bike shop and ask the boys if they know when someone is having a group ride in case you do not want to get lost or are riding alone. I do not want to ride with you so do not ask.

Ridden Trail: Once a month

, from Lumberton Summary: Bitter Old man sounds like he's got the right idea.(A little too "fatherly" but I guess that's why he's the Bitter Old Man). The Chicken Road trail is like a hilly version of Smith Lake. That's something I prefer, but I have not been out to Smith Lake in a few months. Connecting the two loops sounds like a great idea, but it does mean riding a bit of fire road between the two. I'll try to think of it as a cool down between sets. Recommended Route: The reviews below suggest that there are a couple of ways of getting to this trail. I hope my riding abilities can one day have something intelligent to say. Other recommended trails in the same area: Heffner loop. Keyauwee trail.

, from Fayetteville Summary: This is an excellent trail to ride as part of a workout with the Heffner elementary loop (aka Johnny's loop--Incredible job on maintaining the trail btw). This trail has a good warm-up switchback through the woods, a go steady climb and then a truly kick-@$$ jump section with banked-turns and jumps. Great place to practice getting comfortable in the air without the commitment of breaking anything. Don't get me wrong. You can get some wicked air if you like. Zip around in the "upper" section for a while, and then head to my favorite area 1/3rd of the way back down the fire road (the one you came up to get to the jumpy section). There's a single track to your right. You can carry huge amounts of speed through this section and practice your general handling skills. This is a great place to get comfortable with a new bike's cornering abilities. There are a couple of fast, rooty, rocky descents and suddenly you'll be back where you first entered the trail. I highly recommend doing this loop twice then heading over to the Heffner elementary loop to do it twice. If you push even moderately you will be smoked when you are done. To link the two, ride back to where you came off of Reilly, but don't get back on the cabled off dirt road. Stay straight and turn right after crossing the old rail tracks. Keep you eyes peeled for the green plastic arrows about 2-3 tenths of a mile down on your left. You'll find yourself in the easy portion of the Heffner loop. Take off and smile.
Recommended Route: I park up on Reilly and Cliffdale in any of the parking lots and ride the dirt road past the little mini-mall (Theres a "Fast and the Furious-like" auto shop and a good pizza place in this mini-mall). At the cabled off end, turn right and follow the dirt road all the way to the sandy bottom. Bear right up into the illegal dumping area--do a few tricks on the discarded couches if you like Trials tests--and head down hill past the little dam. Bear to the right again as you begin to head up hill and keep your eyes open for trails. Other recommended trails in the same area: I would like to see less belligerent behavior between the Bike Shop supporters and Hawley's Bicycle World supporters. Both "sides" are guilty of it, yet it does nothing to promote the sport of cycling. I don't want to sound like Mr. touchy-feely, spiritual guru or anything, but I have to say it because I hear it when I go out riding and when I look at local reviews. Simply, if a person were a "wannabe" then he or she would want to model true athletes in the sport. If a rider is a true athlete in the sport, then he or she should be beyond local bike shops and have enough class and decorum to leave that sniveling behind. That means the only room for whining is left to those who are simply posing to be cyclistsor the French -;

, from Southern Pines Summary: Trail Update: Chicken Road trails are back to full splendor since our storm. All the fallen trees and limbs have been removed and many areas raked thanks to some of us dedicated riders. These trails are a local "TREASURE" without them we would have no real rides at all. Who in their right mind would want to go to Smith Lake and ride with all the beginners and Bike Shop wanna bees and pay for it too! Makes me Mad as hell!!! Recommended Route: Begin at the fire break off of Chicken RD
