Home of Mud, Sweat, and Gears, as well as several other races all year round. Trail is well marked, and new trails were just put in in the last two weeks. Lots of ups and downs, hill climbs, and fast sprint sections. Several easy to very technical log crossings, guaranteed to throw you off at least once. This trail just got extended, we rode for at least an hour and ten minutes and never hit the same trail twice. Unfortunately when it rains, some of it goes underwater, you might get wet, but overall you can't beat this trail for its speed, its hills, and log crossings. Better than the Pyranna Pit, and probably up over the Air Station, its just pure fun through the woods.
Take 24 to Camp Lejeune, go through the main gate, follow the highway until you get to the first left turning lane. Approx 5 miles. Take a left, go through one light, make a right at the second light. Trails start down tank trail to left. Parking in grass next to tank trail.
Summary: Great fun! Twisty, technical and fast! Very well maintained and worth the stop to get a pass. About 5.8 miles long and can be completed pretty quickly, it took us about 35 minutes to finish, with a mph range of 9.2-10.6 depending on our drive.

Summary: This is a fantastic trail for the flatlands- well maintained and constantly evolving. It has a little of everything, made for bikers by bikers- FAST safe structured bridges, sucking sand, black mud, burst uphills, short drops, and roots by the millions. The big log crossing is the highlight for me- but opinions vary. I can't tell you it is world class, but it is a world class job done by the local bike club (down east cycling) with the materials nature provided.
Only two issues I have- trail is marked very well in some places and not well enough in others. After someone has shown you won't have a problem- but you better be watching when it merges with tank trails and then splits again, otherwise you will be wondering around looking for a little bit. Next are the bugs. My God the bugs are aggressive blood sucking malicious vandals. My advice is DO NOT STOP in the warm months unless you intend on donating copious amounts of blood. There is no negotiating with them- bug spray just lets them know you are coming. My best advice is for you to talk your least favorite riding buddy to ride point- when they start screaming drop to a smaller cog and double cadence. Prayer may work but I think they must pray too."God is great God is good let us thank him for our food..."
Recommended Route: If you have a base pass and don't know, ask the Marines at the gate. If you don't have a pass- ask the pass office person while you are getting one. It is easy though- just realize the trail head starts probably 100 meters or so down the road you are parking next to- on the left.
Other recommended trails in the same area: "minnow pit" at MCAS Cherry Piont; Landing on hw58 is decent but not technical by any means.

Summary: One of the best maintained trails I've ever seen. This trail rocks. The obstacles are semi-abundant and are always in tip-top shape. It's great. When a log pile starts to get old, it disappears and a new one is built somewhere else. I really feel like a freeloader when I ride this trail. I clear felled trees when I come across them (or stack on it to make a pile), but that's the extent of my efforts so far. I suppose I will finally have to make one of DEC's meetings. Anyhow, if you haven't ridden it yet, you're missing out. I talk to people once a month who road-trip from different states to ride this trail, and they always love it. Bottom line, if you like XC riding with a hint of danger, this trail is for you. Thanks DEC!
Recommended Route: Use directions from other reviews to find the trailhead which is clearly marked. There are two or three obstacles which can be dangerous to beginners, so be careful.
Other recommended trails in the same area: New River Air Station
Haywood Landing (part of Croatan National Forest)
Anything else requires a road trip.

Summary: Very twisty. Some mud after a few weeks of scattered rain. Puddles are more like ponds, but they are rideable. Some good log jumps. End seems to be newly cut. Good ride for all skills. Better riders can hit this one fast.
Recommended Route: Park off Lyman Road and head down the tank trail to find the singletrack to the left... That's the start. The "new" finish comes out by the barracks... other side of the sand lot.
Other recommended trails in the same area: Only decent one I know in that area.

Summary: Technical, tight, twisty single track with some short fast sections and some small crossings, bumps, and pits. Fire roads cut through the area if you need to take a break. There are some big puddles and some sand back there if you look around. WARNING! The swamps of Camp Lejeune are famous for thier insect life, if it has rained in the last week take some bug spray and soak yourself, or, take a flame thrower, it's up to you. There are a bunch of pallets and things somewhere in there, what's up with that? Maybe some trials riders out there? Speaking of which, I am looking for some recreational riders out there to do some riding/practice. Anyone interested?
Recommended Route: It really does not matter.....the marked loop is the best for starters, but, there are so many ways to go once you get your bearings.
Other recommended trails in the same area: Sorry, no help here.....still new to the trails around here.
