As of now, only 3 short loops, trails rate between beginner and intermediate. Trails are new in 2001 so they need to get packed down.
North on Hwy 50 from Raleigh (Creedmore Rd) and over Hwy 98. Continue North over the lake. First state park on right is boat ramp, continue to second right, Beaverdam State recreation area. It will cost $4 a car to get past guard shack during the summer. Follow signs to trailhead.
Summary: These trails have come a long way from when they were first reviewed. With the south loop and 3 mile drop zone loop there are plenty of trails. Lots of fast sections and technical areas on the new loops to mix things up. One of my favorite trails in the area.
Recommended Route: All the trails are one way loops, Riding the west loop to the south loop, and then riding the drop zone will give you a nice 12miles ride and plenty of variety.
Other recommended trails in the same area: New light, Crabtree

Summary: Nice clean and well maintained trails. Very well marked with large signage and trail markers everywhere. The $5 dollar fee is a little steep for someone with limited endurance and time like myself. I spent 45 minutes on the west loop and 20 minutes on the inner loop. That is nearly 5 bucks an hour to ride for me. I am not really complaining though. The park is nice with facilities, picnic sites, etc and would be a nice place to spend the day with friends riding, kayaking, fishing, etc. There were a few other riders out yesterday (saturday) and one that I talked to had allready ridden all four trails and was getting ready to ride some more so he was definately getting his moneys worth. Overall, I say ride it, its worth it and the fees should stop at the end of september. Oh and that reminds me, the trails have alot of hardwood trees so I am sure in the fall it will be a beautiful place to ride.
Recommended Route: I rode west loop and inner loop yesterday. The west loop (posted as 2.4 miles)was my kind of trail. SIngle track, just enough twist and turns, some small whoops here and there and the best part, long winding downhill sections that let you catch your breath after the uphill sections. There were a couple of long climbs that tested my heart and lungs but most of the climbs are more gradual with short flat sections to catch you breath before the next climb. As I said before though, the payoff is long downhills. Not suicidal by any stretch of the imagination. Just lond and winding. The inner loop is a mile or so shorter than the west loop. I was pretty tired when I turned onto the inner loop so my desciption may be a little skewed. The inner loop has shorter but steeper up hill sections with less flat trail in between to catch your breath. One or two of the downhills are quite steep and rocky and atleast one of the climbs is very rocky, rooty. I didnt enjoy the inner loop as much as the west loop but I am sure that each of the four trails has something to offer some everyone.

Summary: Overall, this is a very fun trail. I think it is a great blend of challenge for the beginner (if you combine West & South...South alonoe is a bit too easy and short) and will get the heart rate up and allow the more experienced rider to have alot of fun. Like some others have said, some decent climbs, but they are usually follwed by a little cool down. Some fun, fast downhill and some nice piled logs will keep a smile on your face and sweat coming down your face. I think this is a great, well maintained trail and can be enjoyed by everyone. Impossible to get lost or off track. Also of note: they is currently (August 21) a $5 charge for an all day pass to ride. I believe it will be free of chrge come the end of September.
Recommended Route: Start at beginning of West route for a warm up and connect up with the South Loop. Together this should give you about 10 miles. After completion of the South Loop you will be put out right where you started.
Other recommended trails in the same area: New Light for a little more of a challenge, Crab Tree for less of a challenge.

Summary: These trails are great! If you combine all trails, including the south loop, you can put together a nice 12-13 mile ride. While not the most technical in the world, you can really work up some nice speed and hit some really nice jumps. The South loop contains some nice downhill and uphill sections, and the newly termed "drop zone" is incredible! These trails are currently my favorite in the area.
Recommended Route: warm up on small loops, left, right and west and then hit the southloop, be sure to enter the drop zone within the south loop
Other recommended trails in the same area: chhs
new light

Summary: I think these trails are great. West, Outer, and Inner loops are fast and fun....great for beginners. South loop is great for those who seek more of a challenge....lots of good climbs. The only thing these trails lack are obstacles, but otherwise very, very nice.
Recommended Route: Any
