Summary:
Pretty nice place to ride right in Rochester. Set up along ridges and gullies, there is a fair deal of ups and downs. Some stuff is pretty fast and flowing, other stuff is slow and technical, but for the most part it's a good mix of ups and downs with some natural obstacles and drops sprinkled in. The only bad part about how this place is set up is a lot of stuff really only rides one way. You can ride both ways, but you'll just be climbing, or in some cases walking, very steep stuff, and going down lesser grades. The nice thing about that is when you do ride the right direction, it's wicked fast and fun. Not really as crazy as everyone makes it out to be though. Beginners would struggle, but it's not really experts only. Some of the more difficult stuff can be avoided and the stuff that can't is pretty doable. The orange trail is probably the biggest technical challenge.

Recommended Route:
I thin the red trail definitely begs to be ridden clockwise, starting from the pipe/parking lot area. It can be ridden the other way, but it's not enjoyable. The purple loop is definitely clockwise only. It's really steep coming down, not something you could ride up. The up has some rock gardens to make it more challenging. Jumps and drops on the way down. Blue seems to be bi-directional as are the green bits. Green is mostly a flat area with jumps and roll-overs and such. Some other features in there like a pipe and some dh near the gully. Orange could be ridden either way, it's probably easier one way than another but either seems plenty challenging to me. It's mostly flat with a lot technical rock features.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
West Bay, Dryer Rd, Whiting Rd

Summary:
This place effin rules. Easily the best destination around Rochester area. Challenging, technical, ripping downhills, and all very legal now. Tie in with west bay park across empire blvd and you have an epic 2-3 hr. loop depending on you. Not a place for beginers, this place will tear at your lungs quickly with no letup. Rode there Oct. 28 2013 and it was completely raked free of leaves. Excellent maintenance. Intermeds, exprts, ride there and review here.

Recommended Route:
Park at end of Tryon park rd. Start at bowl behind dirt park lot. Do large downhill to right and stay right at all forks for a rolling gradual off camber snakey downhill.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
West bay park irondequoit, use Google map to find. Durand eastman park in lake ontario(not really legal, but wicked fun).

Summary:
I first rode Tryon Park in the early 90s. Wow has this place come along way since then! What has always made Tryon great is a very organic feel to the trail system. Not contrived short little loops, but a little more "wild" for a county park located in the city of Rochester. There has always been some fast rooty sections and definitely technical sections that really keep you on your toes!

Now it's even better, as Tryon still has that natural, wild feel, but with trail sustainability clearly in practice now. Most of the unsustainable, eroded fall line trails have been closed or rerouted and replaced by beautifully built, flowy trails that are tons of fun and will last! Tryon Bike on Winton Road is THE place to go for more detailed information on Tryon Park!

Recommended Route:
Rock Ring!! Otherwise, stop in Tryon Bike and get a map or talk to the folks in there!

Other recommended trails in the same area:
West Bay Park

Summary:
I can't believe the last time this trail system was reviewed was in 2007. Well, since then, GROC (Genesee Regional Off-Road Cyclists) has been formed and they petitioned Monroe County to open the park up to us! First in an 18/mo. pilot program, now *hopefully* indefinitely. The sketchy bs features made out of pallets and nails have been removed and the park is now maintained regularly by a couple devoted crews- the GROC crew and a handful of dh guys. Most trails aren't for noobs although some of them were dumbed down for the final county walk through. There's a pretty gnarly rock ring trail that's super technical but still plenty of fast, flowy runs. You can't plan on spending the day there but a long afternoon definitely. Hooks up nice with Bay Park West and swamp trail.

Recommended Route:
Get a map or find an experienced rider to show you around. You can't get lost, it might be hard to find the flow you're lookin' for though. The crew at Tryon Bike know their way around.
