Summary:
Pretty good local trail. Good for a lunch time ride. :) Most trails criss-cross eachother. Sandy, rocky, hilly with a huge amount of potential. If the trails were better maintained and some more single track was added with quality trail markers and map, this place would be one of the best on Long Island. A good trailbuilder would be able to make this place incredible. The jumps in here are okay. Most of them are out of my ability range. Tabletops would have been better...
It would be nice to see the CLIMB organization get this place under its belt. I think those guys might be able to do this place some justice. However, only if they could work with the local kids who love this place to work with them. Make the jumps better, put some technical features in here, put in some skinnies and ladders. etc. I pray to God this will happen one day. Way to many anti-free-ride going on here on Long Island. I'm rating this place a 3 because of the lack of trail mileage and lack of trail care.

Recommended Route:
Can't really recommend a route. Just ride around in here and explore. Take the time to learn this place. It's cool - really. Once you do that, you'll appreciate it. Maybe you too will see the potential in here. :)

Other recommended trails in the same area:
This is the only trail I know of in the area. Others on Long Island I go to are Cathedral Pines, Stillwell, Bethpage, Greenbelt Trail, Calverton, Rocky Point, etc.

Summary:
As a followup - it might be a good idea to have slime in your tires or a spare tube. The Nail Man strikes here roughly 3-5x a year. Nail targets are the Orange Trail near the Purple Trail, the LIPA Trail, the blue trail, and near all entrances. If you see nails or a dangerous obstacle in the way, please puch it to the side. No one likes to get a flat in here. This guys an idiot. (The park is taken care of by Suffolk County).

Summary:
Awesome Trail for just spending a few hours at. A lot of hidden spots, and a lot of history. Awesome views of Crab Meadow, and you can take the LIPA ROW to a parking area off 25A or to Waterside Road. A few extreme BMX / Mtb spots too.

Recommended Route:
From main entrance, trun right, to blue blazed trail. Good views and sunsets along this trail. When the trail splits, bear right onto purple. You'll be going through old fountations of houses here. Proceed, and when purple makes a left at the top of a hill to go down into a valley, proceed right to a trail that follows along side the Crab Meadow Golf Course fence. When you reach the LIPA Trail (open clearing), turn left. Proceed on the LIPA trail and make your first left onto a green blazed trail, then a quick right onto a purple blazed trail. Proceed down purple, and bear left when you arrive in the valley. After an S Turn up a small hill, bear right, onto the brown trail. Proceed on brown until you reach a large canyon, you'll find a few trails getting you down. Once you get down, to a red blazed trail, turn left, alongside the pond, and make your first right, toward the exit. Probably take you 30 minutes, maybe 2-3 miles.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Trail to the east of Waterside Road, and Stillwell woods, off the LI Greenbelt in Syosset.

Follow-up...

BTW, the intro to this trail says trail length of just a few minutes ... There are enough unique trails zig zagging through the whole park that I never get to ride more than a handfull of them each outing, and I'm riding in the park for hours, not minutes.
