Racer Summary: Couldnt post this on the correct page for this trail soo...
The trail runs through a nature preserve along one of the tallest ridges on LI. Known as a terminal moraine it was created during the last ice age as the glacier pushed all of the sediment up into a ridge line. Considering this, this place has a lot to offer the XC rider. Not too technical as far as trails go but technical enough for Long Island with creative routing over some of the remnant glacial deposits. Its got a tremendous amount of flow and is only interrupted by well placed filters to slow you down. There are places where you can pump along a ridge line and not pedal or break for quarter mile stretches at a time. Some really great climbs are evenly matched with some sweet down hills. Again not too technical but clever trail routing keeps you alert and makes it one of the funnest trails in the area. There are options on the ride too. You can stick to the beginner/intermediate loop or take the optional Black Diamond and Double BD expert routes. The trail surface is mostly hard pack and full suspension is not needed here and you might just suffer if you do bring a full squish. I ride this place on a full rigid like many other riders here. A ton of gears are not needed either which makes it a favorite of many Single Speeders. Most trail obstacles consist of whoops-d-dos ( or "moguls" as the skiers call them) a common obstacle on LI. others include banked turns and clever routing over big boulders and other random geologic formations. It is in a nature preserve and so there is a good amount of wild life. If you do ride here please keep that in mind, this trail is secondary to it intended use as habitat for thousands of migrating song birds and other small mammals. If you want a real treat charge up the lights and head out on a cool spring evening under a full moon. Leave the MP3 player though since the song birds will provide enough entertainment. You will likely catch more than one deer in you head lamp too especially as you enter the section called "White Ghost". Recommended Route: For an easy ride stick to the main trail. Of you want a fast flowing training ride do several laps on the main trail. For a long extremely fun ride hit all the optional black Diamonds. The trail has been getting a lot of use since its opening roughly a year ago so hit it early or late if you want ride alone however I wouldnt call it crowded during peak hours. Other recommended trails in the same area: Cathedral Pines, East Setauket.

Cross Country Rider Summary: Glacier Ridge is an absolute blast to ride. I would venture to say it is one of the most technical of the trails officially maintained by CLIMB. Last time I checked it was about 10 miles...
This trail is unique in it's design because the interesting/challenging sections are configured in a way that you could repeat a favorite spot repeatedly.
The terrain is pure Long Island singletrack with millions of moguls. Some sections are crazy fast (in true L.I. fashion) and other sections will definitely test your slow riding skills...
The trail is actually a work in progress because the trail steward (who is a trail building God) continues to add new sections to the system.
If you're out visiting LI (or live here), this is a must hit trail.
Makes me smile everytime... Recommended Route: LIE to No. Ocean Ave (N)
Make a right from N. Ocean to Bicycle Path... follow the signs to Brookhaven Town Hall.
Head towards the back of the lot (look for the windmill)
The trailhead is to the left of the "bunker-looking" building... Other recommended trails in the same area: Rocky Point
Cathedral Pines
Belle Meade Trail

Racer Summary: First of all, this trail is not in Islip or Farmingville it is in Brookhaven. Get map and directions at climbonline.org
No rocks on Long Island so it's not a technical trail in that aspect. And in my opinion not a single trail on Long Island should be considered advanced or difficult as far as mtbing is concerned. However, this trail is a classic already and only opened in 2006. Super fast, hilly, well-cut, fun experience. Go! - you won't be disappointed. Recommended Route: There's one main loop with many off-shoots to spice things up. Difficult to get lost... Other recommended trails in the same area: Rocky Point and Cathedral Pines
