Summary:
The Quarry, or Skytop Quarry as it is called, has everything for everyone, from easy doubletrack, to very technical singletrack to a terrain park to downhills. Last summer I rode it everyday, and I am sorry to say that I have ridden it out. I use it now for cardio and to hone my technical riding. It's very good riding not far at all from the SU Main Campus. Beware of the pig, because some clown on a quad killed himself a couple of years ago there. Seeing as its private property, the cops came down hard after that. But that was a while ago and I haven't had any trouble so far. Also along the same thread, there are dirtbikers that I've seen there. Unfortunately, all one can do is stay out of the way.

Recommended Route:
Easiest way in-Take the main road up through South Campus up past the Inn Complete (bar) and park in the Skytop office building parking lot, which happens to be the last building on your right. Cross the road, ride past the Syracuse University Research Center sign and look for the metal swing gate about 200 yards on your left. Ride around it and look for the entrance on the right after the gate. Fun way in-Park at the Skytop parking lot and continue riding the road past the training field. The road takes a right bend and starts to go downhill. Look to your left on the side of the road and there is a meter of some kind popping up out of the ground. Take the singletrack right next to it for a good technical warm-up. Ride the trail until it spits you out in the terrain park. Mess around in the terrain park and then ride down one level to where the old buildings are and take a left before the buildings and take the singletrack up the hill. Veering right will take you into intensely technical singletrack with downhill offshoots while veering left will be easier. Follow the singletrack around the upper lip of the quarry until it spits you out back in the terrain park.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Vanderkamp-North of Lake Oneida, it has good, tight singletrack that is well-marked and well-mapped. Only catch is that it is on Christian camp property and is off limits from mid-June until sometime in August. Consult Bike Loft (LBS) online or call for directions.

Also Highland Forest in Tully, south of Syracuse (again, consult Bike Loft). Good and muddy most of the summer, good singletrack is not on the map.

Summary:
the quarry has a lot to offer and can appeal to all levels of mtb enthusiests. you can find a variety single track trails and enjoyable drops and downhills.it has a dirt terrain park that seems to have been neglected and needs some work. its main loop has a meriad of off shoots to explore and can lead you into completly new areas of the landscape. its a very enjoyable place to ride.the only down side i can say about the place is that you sometimes get trash in there that will tear around on loud dirt bikes. so if you hear them coming, i recommend you get off whatever trail your on and dont move.
