Cross Country Rider Summary: Some lower-calibre DH/FR runs down the slopes of Swain Ski&Snowboard Center. Full-blown downhill bikes a bit overkill for this place, but still fun I'm sure. I was able to manage most of it my first time out on my 5" hardtail with an undersprung fork and dying brakes. Get a local to show you around a couple times then you're all set. The place is small, so you need to be drunk and stupid to get lost. The big roller behind the Ski Patrol building is SCARY. Feels like you're dropping in on a massive quarter pipe. Come into it with too much speed and you will learn what a 20ft to flat feels like. It was cool to rip up the same trails on bike as I had for years on skis. The ladder run that goes down to the far left of the ski slope (as you're looking down) is a bomb.
I'm giving the place 5 flamin' chilis for technical difficulty, just because it really keeps you on your toes if you're riding a smaller travel bike like I was. If you're on a big bike, I would say it's probably a 2- or 3-chili difficulty but still lotsa fun. I plan to go back again next summer, on the same bike (just fixed up a bit) and give it another go.
Recommended Route: Whatever you do, the whoops at the top above Mile Sweep are a must.

, from Swain Summary: 3-5 very steep single track trails through the trees between ski trails. Less advanced riders can cruise down ski trails. Then there's the Chute (basically vertical) for the hardcore. Recommended Route: Up the ski trails of Mile Sweep/Promanade or take truck to top. You'll need a local for that- and to show you the various trails. Call Jim at Imagine Peace Bikes 607 545-6110 Other recommended trails in the same area: Rattlesnake Wilderness Area for miles and miles of XC riding. Best to contact Pat at Massasaugua Bikes in Nunda for that (on the net).
