Weekend Warrior Summary: Very tame, with no real hills to speak of. There are a couple of breaks; one in Yonkers and another in Elmsford. The Yonkers break is an ungroomed dirt section that calls for frequent dismounts, so most go around it. Recommended Route: You can pick up the southernmost head at the bottom of Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx, to start off on dirt. Where Route 87 crosses Van Cortlandt Park South, go up the shoulder of the 87 exit ramp a bit till the cyclone fence ends and crash through the brush to the trail and head north.
If you want to start on the paved section, that's at the top of the park, on the Bronx/Westchester border. Other recommended trails in the same area: The Old Croton Aqueduct runs parallel to this trail all the way to Croton. I've taken the Put up to Croton and then come back on the OCA, a nice day ride. To do this, cross the reservoir on the Put, then get off the trail at the first left. Ride west until the Gatehouse bridge, cross the reservoir again, and take the first right onto the dirt road, Croton Dam Road. At the dam, pick up the OCA south. The Friends of the Old Croton Aqueduct puts out a map, which you'll need to connect the breaks.

, from new york, newyork Summary: It is no the best of the east but when you cant scape New York nothing cant beat it .Nice after work ride. Recommended Route: if you are in manhattan take the 1 or 9 train to the last stop 242st van cortlandt park. Go straight throw the playing fields and you will find some trail heads which would lead to a old train track trail.Follow that trail to the left of the trail head and pedal pass the second bridge >after that bridge there would be another trail head to the right. Have fun with the ramps.Go up to some of the clibs for some xc riding and some fun downhills. Other recommended trails in the same area: If you got a car go to Pleasentville
