Lake Desolation

Rocky double track that can be muddy. This trail is snowmobile trail #29. At junction ford the creek and follow it 'till you reach a gravel road. Go left a short distance an look for trail on right. Several trails this way. This is a out and back. When you get back to the creek, go up the hill. You might be able to return back to Tinney's this way. Try the trails across the street from Tinney's off of Main st / Braden rd. If Tinney's is open, stop and see the owner. He is a mtb'r, and can point you in the right direction.

Summary:
I used to camp up at the lake, and the trails are endless. They lead everywhere, from the lake, to an old graphite mine, to logging areas, to Sacandaga. The possibilities of places to go are endless.

Summary:
I've been riding dirt bikes and quads here for years, and that's what you'll have the best time on. Mountain bikes are fun enough, but if you're looking for tight smooth single track, keep looking. These trails are all old wide rocky logging roads. Unfortunately, the loggers are still there in some spots and destroying trails left and right. You could literally ride forever up here if you wanted. Last summer my friend and I did 16 miles, and that was just scratching the surface. One winter a guy rode from around my house all the way to Buffalo on a snowmobile.

Recommended Route:
Start at Tinnie's, and see if anyone has a trail map. If not, go right out the driveway, left at the first dirt/gravel road, all the way till you reach trail, keep going until you reach a T intersection. From there the possibilities are endless, so hook up with a local for god's sake, or find a trail map. If you get really desperate for a trail map, call 882-6621, and ask for Al, he could hook you up.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
some stuff in saratoga
