Ridden Trail: Every few months

Weekend Warrior Summary: I have ridden this trail twice. Seasoned mountain bikers would probably call it easy. The beginning of the trail, accessed from the far southern parking lot is flat with lots of roots and rocks, so that presents some challenges, there is then a fairly steep uphill part and then the whole second half of the ride is slightly downhill woods road, which really presents no challenge at all. I am a novice mountain biker and the loop took me about an hour to ride, so if you are looking for more of a ride than that, better to go elsewhere, although Anthony Wayne is the only area in Harriman State Park where mountain biking is officially allowed (I believe). Last time I went, I combined biking the loop with a hike on the Appalachian Trail (which the mountain bike loop passes by), accessible again from the far southern parking lot. Using trail maps, I did a loop on the AT that brought me back out at the far northern end of the Recreation area. That short stretch of the AT had great views west and especially north and east - to Bear Mountain, the Hudson and even up to the Bear Mountain Bridge. Other recommended trails in the same area: Blue Mountain Preservation in Peekskill is great, but most of the trails were too hard for me.

, from Monsey, NY USA Summary: Not very impressive. The first time I rode there last year the trail was okay. This summer the trail is a mess. The mountain uses the trail as a runoff and floods the trail to the point where after it rains it is like riding in a river. Not worth the trip from anywhere, the riding is just making the trail worse. Go to Ramapo or Ringwood and let Bear Mountain heal. Recommended Route: There is only two ways to go either enter near the guard booth or at the back parking lot.

, from cortlandt manor ny usa Summary: This is a great intermediate trail with some logs and a moderate amount of stones. There is a good amount of hills. There are many trails that cross this one including the appalacian trail (not for bikes, beware the rangers) so a map is good. This would be good for a light day of biking, some of the only trails allocated for bikes near bear mtn. Recommended Route: there is only one path at this antiquated recreation area. trail maps can be gotten at the bear mtn. parks office. Other recommended trails in the same area: mt beacon
