Auburn - Fleming Trail

2 of 5
Shared for hiking and biking during the summer, this trail is was converted from an old railroad bed. The Auburn trail head, begins with some old railroad ties laid across the trail, and are partially exposed on the trail surface. This makes for a slightly jarring first 1/4 mile after which it becomes a mostly flat, dirt trail. The trail takes you through woods, past some fields and over a couple of small bridges. One bridge is constructed of railroad ties, and another is steel deck, neither have guardrails and both cross shallow creeks. Towards the Fleming end, ATV's have carved some dips and small mounds which add a bit of variety to a generally mild but scenic trail.
Take Rt 34 south from the Weedsport exit on the New York State Thruway. Continue south for about 8 miles through Auburn and the Fleming entrance will be on the right across from a convenience store. The Auburn side of the trail can be accessed from Dunning Ave inside of the City of Auburn.
Summary: The trail is pretty small in length. It is about 2 miles of flat riding. It was an old railroad track that has been removed and turned into a trail system. If your looking on a ride to warm up on this would be it. Other than that it does not offer much excitement. Definately a beginner's ride!!
