Downhiller Summary: Its a really fun trail to ride, the only problem is that you come across a few sketch balls now an then
For example my friend and i were stopped my a man, and he said he was calling the cops on us for riding in his walking path?????doesn't make sense to me when its all state land, he doesn't own it. well other than that there are some great downhill parts. over the years tough atv's and dirt bikes have torn the trails up. i personally like to ride the dark trail, what me and my friends call it. other than the landfill, garbage, and beer bottles it is a decent place to mountain bike. Recommended Route: i ride on the kasson road entrance

Ridden Trail: Once a month

, from Camillus, NY Summary: Since I last wrote, I have emerged from my situation fairly unscathed ( but not without a price!). I was handed down an ACD ( adjournment in contemplation of dismissal) for six months and ordered to pay restitution to the Sheriff's Dept. for 1 hr's worth of flight fuel for AIR-1. NOT CHEAP!!! Don't forget attorney's fees. Here's what i'm saying: In the case of this trail and the rest of the quarry, what was once some seriously enjoyable riding has become a full-blown hassle. Until further notice: Steer clear of the entire Split Rock quarry!! It falls on two different jurisdictions ( OCSD and Camillus P.D. ). Believe me when I tell you that, in the end, one of them will be more than happy to ticket or arrest you. I hope the day will come when we can use this trail system again. It's a shame it had to come to this. Recommended Route: Trail can be reached by taking Rt. 5 (West Genesee St.) westbound to Kasson Rd. Left onto Kasson Rd. Aprox. 1/2 mile up on left. Do opposite from Howlett Hill Rd. Other recommended trails in the same area: None at this time. Sorry.

Ridden Trail: Once a week

, from Camillus, N.Y. Summary: I recently was ticketed for tresspassing on land that has been state land for years.I grew up in the "Gulf" and have walked, rode and hunted the old quarry for my entire life. Things are just now becoming problematic up there. With inexperienced riders getting hurt and hunters/target shooters unfamiliar with the land discharging firearms too close to residential areas, the Onondaga County Sheriff's Department has been forced to patrol the area and make such arrests if deemed necessary. It has recently come to my attention that the D.E.C. owns a chunk of land in here as well. It was once all deemed "forever wild" by the proper authorities, but that is now obviously a farce.Land is changing hands without warning and owners seem too distracted to hang "POSTED" signs to inform us properly. I will do my best as a native of this area to clean up this mess with those those it concerns (ie. getting signs put up to say what is private and what is state) so we will all know where we stand on this situation.I'll update as soon as I can.Good luck and be careful! Recommended Route: The Kasson Rd. entrance is now private property!!! Don't use it!!! I had to find out the hard way. The entrance at the end of Onondaga Blvd. is suitable for ATV and mountain bike use as well as excellent foot trails. No vehicle access. Another is Ottman Rd. It can be reached by same directions Corey B. gave above. A reminder to all:The land adjacent to Smorol Rd. on the corner of Split Rock and Cedervale Rd's has been privately purchased as well. This includes Lost Lake. Avoid this, too!

Ridden Trail: Every few months

, from Camillus, NY Summary: If we're talking about the same ride, this is the one that takes you up to the old Camillus dump. You just have to get over the fact that there are a few old tires and refrigerators lying about. On the plus side, there are large patches of exposed stone that I (with a little imagination) think of as the Upstate New York variant of Moab Slick Rock. If you take the trail in the opposite direction (away from Split Rock), and cross the two lane road, you'll connect up with a truly fun single track that eventually takes you into a bunch of cornfields behind Pioneer Farms. I do this run whenever I go upstate, just to keep in shape. It's got some technical sections, and as long as it's not muddy, it's a fun 90 minutes. Other recommended trails in the same area: Bear Swamp
