Fairly flat, hard packed dirt, nice views, no technical challenge, excellent for young children, elderly, novices and first timers.
Take the Saw Mill Parkway to exit 9, Executive Blvd. Follow signs to the Hudson River Museum, take Executive Blvd. to North Broadway, make a left, go to the next right Odell Ave., to the bottom of the the hill, Warburton Ave., make a left. Go to the Hudson River Museum parking lot (Trevor Park). Directly
across the street from the parking lot there, is a street leading up a hill, Shonnard Terrace, approximately 30-40 yards on the left is the entrance to the Old Croton Trail. This area is easily accessible by the Hudson Line from NYC. You can take the train to Yonkers or the Glenwood station, which is directly behind Trevor park.
Summary: just stay out of the yonkers part, since the lower trail takes you through yonkers, and yonkers by the river is a sh*tty neighborhood, and you dont want to get your bike jacked by some dooshbag crackhead.
Recommended Route: just stay outta yonkers
Other recommended trails in the same area: BRP/Taconic trail is kind of good, but paved.

Ridden Trail: Ridden Once

Summary:
I rode this trail up to the part where it intersects with Interstate 87. Its a good, long and fast trail. Nothing technical until you get past the Interstate 87 intersection. This trail is great for anyone who loves cross country (as I do). Scenery is nice. I didnt like the fact that the trail cuts through unnumbered back yardsliterally! I would have given this trail a perfect score if there was less interaction with peoples homes. Lyndhurst is a very nice spot. I took some great photos there. Ive never felt guilty about leaving tire marks in grass but I did at Lyndhurst. I walked my bike around the place. I look forward to visiting this spot again. Hopefully, the green house will be filled with stuff. The next time I do this trail (probably next week) I would like to go much further up and even try to get to the reservoir. But Ill need help: I was unable to continue past the Interstate 87 intersection for I lost the trail. Maybe I was just tired. If anyone can give me some directions, I would appreciate it!
Recommended Route: Pick up the trail opposite the Hudson River Museum in Yonkers, as indicated above.

Ridden Trail: Once a week

Summary: The trail is good for all kinds of bikers the best part of it is the north side because you go through tight backyards and makes it cool to maneuver throught them. There are many great lookout points along the trail if your a siteseeer. There are really no big hils on this trail so its just flat from Yonkers up to the Croton Dam. I ride this trail everyday and I've never gotten bored of it. ENJOY

Ridden Trail: Every few months

Summary: Commonly known as the "Aquaduct Trail", this is more of an offroad highway than a specific loop. I've done a ride from Manhattan to Blue Mountain State Park via this trail. While technically, it's pretty easy, the hard part is connecting all the sections of this trail which is split up by roads and towns. In lieu of a guide, a good topo map will help you access all parts of the trail, but 90% of it is easy to find and real off-road riding. Highlights of the trail are the views of the Hudson River, the Croton Dam and easy access to provisions and Metro-North stations in the towns along the way. Good for a fast, far, long ride.
Other recommended trails in the same area: This trail connects with the Peekskill-Briarcliff trail on the north side of the Croton Dam (you'll need a map or guide to find it though). On the Yonkers terminus you can access Van Cortland Park in The Bronx
