Mohonk Preserve

Trails are connected to the Minnewaska trails, but offer more variety and length. Can take all the way up to Sky Top, where you can see four states around on a clear day. Lots of carriage roads, but also has single track and technical trails---just have to search for them.
Summary: Not a bad place during the week for a good cardio workout and to take in some scenery. Like others have said, try to avoid the mountain house folks (preserve and mountain house are separate entities). Trails are pretty boring if your looking for anything challenging. Decent trails that actually allow bike traffic are far too short and usually are covered with wet leaves or overgrown with grass, so don't expect too much unless you "mistakenly" enter a foot path, which are awesome. Enter from spring farm trail head, since rarely is anybody there to collect fees.
Recommended Route: Spring farm trail head. Take New Paltz exit if using NYS thruway, take left and proceed down 299 through the village. Take the first right after the bridge over wallkill river, and go up Mt. Rest road past the mountain house and you'll see it on the right.
Other recommended trails in the same area: Stewart MTA "The Buffer Zone" in Newburgh is a far better place to go and take in some XC single track. For more experienced riders hitup Blue Mountain south of Peeksill or Ringwood in NJ.

Summary: I just wrote a whole big review and the page didn't load right so this time I'm keeping it simple. Mohonk bike trails are boring. The hiking trails are fantastic. Really technical, hikers are mostly cool with it and almost no chance of staff or a ranger or someone catching you. Some really "take it easy or you'll get hurt" parts and some awsome drops and speedy decents with surprises thrown in.
Place to go is spring farm entrance. Thing that sucks most is that they cahrge $10 per bike. Get to the main mohonk entrance (across from the golf course) and ask them how to get to spring farm. It's close and easy.
Good luck and keep it dirty.

Summary: Mohonk's bike trails are like unpaved roads. No fun. Now their hiking trails are a different story. Those are fun as hell. Even at peak times, there aren't that many hikers and the ones that are hiking are usually friendly towards bikers on there path.
The place to go is the spring farm entrance. That's where all the gook biking starts and ends. Ton's of trails, never gets boring. Really technical single track creek beds. Alot of drops that really take big balls to actually "drop" at speed. Some insanely fast and straight downhills with some fun stuff in between. There's a good amount of easy (or hard if you make it) up hills before the fun stuff. The hiking trails are intermediate and up. I'm intermediate and I usually take it slow. In a different context, like with a pro, these trails can be considered pro. Obviously quite a few trees you can't get over or around since it's not specifically a mountain bike trail, but overall you can have a great and at least somewhat new ride everytime you come here. Terrain is the usual catskill style boulder, small rock, big rock, rooty, and hard dirt terrain.
Get to the Mohonk main entrance... across from the golf course. Ask the guy how to get to spring farm. It's close. Only thing that sucks is that they charge bikes $10 per.
Good luck and keep it dirty.
Other recommended trails in the same area: Heard Jockey hill is where the pros go. Nearby but never been there. Ask the local shops.

Summary: First off all - the Mohonk Preserve and the Mohonk Mtn House are TWO DIFFERENT PLACES. The Preserve allows dogs and is much cheaper than the Mtn. house. I am a member of the preserve and have ridden and hiked there for years. The staff is always friendly and even helped me when my dog got away from me. There is no single track because the trails cannot accommodate the traffic, so the non carriage trails are for foot traffic only. If you want to go off trail, go somewhere designed for that. As for the Mtn. House, they are rude to people because it is a private resort, not a state park, and the majority of people that go there for the day don't seem to understand that it is private property and the people that stay there pay like 500 a night for tranquility.
Recommended Route: Starting at Trapps bridge, head north to laurel ledge and rock rift - all the way to bonticou crag where the view is fabulous!

Summary: I really dont understand a lot of the reviews about Mohonk. The place is a preserve of which I am a member, I love to go there with my wife and walk the trails which is what they are set up for. I also love to DH, XC and single track ,anything on two wheels is great for me ,and I also rock climb as well, but I go elsewhere for biking , eg Minnewaska, Mohonk is not set up for MtBing of any kind. In addition to this, Mohonk doesn't even sell itself as a MtB park,it's for enjoying nature, the bulk of the reviewers are right ,go to Minnewaska , its just as beautiful and it is set up more for bikes.
Recommended Route: go through New Paltz , over the bridge , turh right at the sign
Other recommended trails in the same area: Minnewaska
