Golden Hill State Forest

Well thought out and designed, fast, tight, twisty single track. The trails are well maintained and marked with either red or blue trail markers. The red trail seemed to be the easier loop and the blue was definitely more advanced. If you go on www.wnymba.org website, they describe the trail system as less technical and less climbing then Mccarty Hill near Holliday Valley, but warn about the newer loop, which must be the blue loop.

Trail Directions
Driving north on route 219 from Salamanca, you will come to a stop sign where you can either go straight on Route 98 or turn left and continue on 219; go straight on Route 98. About 5 miles down the road, you will see Golden Hill Road on the right, turn on to it and climb the hill. You will come to a very spartan parking area on the right with a NY State forest sign on it. This parking area is at a four way intersection. Golden Hill road that you just came up goes North and South. When you come to the intersection where you park, you will go east on the road that intersects with it. It will have a large gate and it will say Truck Trail, travel at your own risk. Ride down that road about 1/4 of a mile and you will see the single track enterance on the north and south sides of the road.

Summary:
Trail review pretty much sums it up, it's a bit easy to loose the blue trail out back in the pine forrest because the trees are marked w/ white spraypaint that can be easy to miss. Don't take the old logging road off of blue trail, it doesn't really go anywhere.

Recommended Route:
either way, it's all good. buy a regional mtn biking trail map from Mud Sweat & Gears in Ellicottville

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Holiday Vally, Hunters Creek, Tamarak
